Production & Market Staff — Chaotic Good Tempeh Richmond, VA · Part-time · $12.77/hr to start
About Us We make fermented chickpea tempeh and sell it at farmers markets, grocery stores, universities, and restaurants across Virginia. We're a small, growing food company and we're looking for someone who wants to get in on the ground floor, not just fill a shift.
The Role Your primary focus is production at our commercial kitchen in Richmond: prepping, fermenting, packaging, and getting product out the door. Depending on fit, there may also be opportunities to represent us at farmers market events. This is a ground-floor position at a company that's actively growing its wholesale, retail, and foodservice accounts. For the right person, the role has a real path into production management, operations, sales, or marketing. We'd rather grow someone internally than hire around them.
Duties
- Support kitchen production: ingredient prep, fermentation monitoring, packaging, and labeling
- Maintain cleanliness and food safety standards throughout the production space
- Follow GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and food handling protocols
- Keep accurate records of production batches, weights, and inventory
- Assist with order fulfillment for wholesale and retail accounts
- Work farmers market events as needed: setup, sales, customer engagement, breakdown
- Adapt to shifting priorities in a small-team environment
What We're Looking For
- Self-motivated with a strong work ethic; you don't wait to be told what to do
- Good attention to detail and ability to follow production procedures consistently
- Coachable and ego-free
- Comfortable with physical, hands-on work
- Reliable and punctual; food production runs on timing
- Experience in food manufacturing, food service, or a commercial kitchen is a plus
- Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, or fermentation is a bonus but not required; we'll train the right person
- ServSafe certification a plus but not required
Compensation & Growth
- $12.77/hr during a 30-day onboarding period
- Eligible for farmers market commission after 30 days
- Eligible for raise to $15/hr after 60 days
