The Production Engineer provides day-to-day technical support to manufacturing operations to improve safety, environmental performance, product quality, production efficiency, and operating costs. Working closely with Operations, Maintenance, Reliability, R&D, and Engineering, this role focuses on troubleshooting process issues, optimizing unit operations, leading continuous improvement initiatives, and supporting capital and process changes. The Manufacturing Engineer is an integral member of the operating team within a Process Safety Management (PSM) environment and plays a key role in maintaining reliable, efficient plant operations.
DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
- Partner with Operations to optimize plant performance and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Monitor process performance against production targets and investigate process deviations.
- Troubleshoot production issues and collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Reliability, and Engineering to implement effective solutions.
- Analyze operating data to identify opportunities for improving safety, quality, production, and cost performance.
- Evaluate existing manufacturing processes and develop process improvements to enhance unit performance.
- Coordinate process trials and new product evaluations with Research & Development and Operations.
- Support operating units during trials, process changes, and equipment modifications.
- Participate in HAZOP studies, Process Safety Management (PSM) activities, and process risk assessments.
- Support weekend duty and provide on-call technical assistance for process troubleshooting, environmental calculations, and operational issues.
- Develop and maintain operating documentation, including:
- Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Process Control Procedures (PCPs)
- Quality System Instructions (QSIs)
- Update procedures to support process improvements and Requests for Change (RFCs).
- Participate in reliability, continuous improvement, and process optimization teams.
- Investigate equipment failures and process downtime while supporting root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
- Perform statistical analysis to support process optimization and operational improvements.
- Support SAP production recipes and manufacturing data management.
- Coordinate industrial hygiene audits with outside vendors for assigned operating units.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering required.
- Minimum of 3 years of chemical manufacturing experience in a continuous process environment.
- Strong knowledge of chemical process operations, including:
- Chemical reactors
- Distillation
- Heat transfer
