Job Purpose
We are seeking a qualified mission-driven and passionate individual with warehouse, retail stocking, and customer service experience to fill the role of Food Shelf Coordinator. As a Food Shelf Coordinator, you will play a key role supporting the work of our direct-service food shelf and other food assistance programs by working alongside staff and volunteers to stock the food shelf, cooler and freezer areas, using pallet jacks and/or forklift to move product into and from appropriate storage areas, and performing other warehouse and maintenance related activities needed for the successful operation of the food shelf. You will use your skills to train and supervise on-site and off-site food shelf volunteers and will assist food shelf shoppers as needed.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide a positive experience for food shelf shoppers by assisting them as needed, answering questions and explaining processes while being sensitive to each individual’s situation and ensuring each person is treated with dignity, sensitivity, and respect.
- Set up work projects for and provide training and supervision to food shelf volunteers to ensure tasks are performed correctly and that all volunteers maintain a high level of customer service for our food shelf shoppers.
- Work with food shelf associate(s) and volunteers to stock the food shelf retail, freezer and cooler areas as needed.
- Work with the Food Shelf Manager to monitor food shelf supplies and maintain physical stock inventory records as needed.
- Maintain order in the food shelf or at off-site distribution events by providing direction and assistance to shoppers, supporting registration and check in and choice food selection.
- Perform daily/weekly/monthly cleaning and maintenance in the food shelf, freezer, and cooler as needed, and ensure a neat, clean, and safe shopping area.
- Receive food bank product orders and move product to appropriate storage areas in the warehouse, freezer, or cooler as directed.
- Check and record cooler and freezer temperatures daily and check product storage requirements and food temperatures as needed.
- Clean and organize designated warehouse aisles by combining pallets and removing clutter, boxes, debris, etc., to ensure a neat and safe environment.
- Follow all Channel One, Feeding America, Department of Health and other related guidelines and requirements to ensure food safety. Includes maintaining Food Safety training certification.
Education and Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education preferred.
- 2 years of experience in retail stocking/food operations or warehouse operations required.
- Experience and/or education in social services, public health or related field helpful.
- Bilingual language skills helpful (Arabic, Somali, Spanish, or Vietnamese).
- Ability to work sensitively and effectively with the area’s diverse population, maintaining confidentiality and dignity.
- Computer proficiency, data entry experience and ability to learn specialized programs required. Microsoft products (Outlook, Office 365) experience preferred.
- Strong organization, time management skills, and ability to multi-task essential.
- Forklift experience helpful.
- Ability to obtain ServSafe certification and Food Manager Certificate required.
- Strong team player and positive communication skills
- Non-judgmental, positive attitude; able to maintain confidentiality and preserve client dignity.
- Able to de-escalate elevated client shopper encounters.
- Must possess a sincere desire to strengthen food access and build healthy communities by supporting people experiencing food insecurity with dignity.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to walk, sit, stand, bend, lift, push and pull as needed.
- Must be able to safely lift up to 50# periodically.
