The Peer Support Specialist provides direct support, mentorship, and skill-building services to youth participants through structured curriculum delivery and group facilitation. This role plays a key part in fostering a safe, empowering, and growth-oriented environment for teenagers while supporting overall program operations and community engagement efforts.
Key Responsibilities:
Youth Facilitation & Curriculum Delivery
- Facilitate weekly youth classes using agency-approved curriculum.
- Prepare lesson plans and materials to ensure engaging, developmentally appropriate instruction.
- Lead group mentoring sessions that promote resilience, life skills, emotional regulation, and positive peer relationships.
- Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all participants.
Documentation & Case Management
- Complete timely and accurate case notes for each participant.
- Track attendance, engagement, and progress toward program goals.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to agency documentation standards.
Community Engagement & Outreach
- Represent the agency at community events, outreach activities, and tabling opportunities.
- Attend contractor-mandated meetings and trainings as required.
- Support recruitment and relationship-building efforts within the community.
Program Support & Special Projects
- Assist with creating and scheduling program-related social media content.
- Contribute to extracurricular projects that enhance youth engagement and program visibility.
- Collaborate with staff to strengthen program impact and innovation.
Qualifications:
- Experience working with youth or adolescents in mentoring, education, or community-based settings.
- Strong facilitation and communication skills.
- Ability to build rapport and establish trust with teenagers.
- Organized, reliable, and able to complete documentation in a timely manner.
- Familiarity with trauma-informed or resilience-based approaches preferred.
- High School Diploma required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
