JOB TITLE: PAYROLL TECHNICIAN
CALENDAR: 2611H (12 MONTH)
SALARY: GRADE 116 (SUPPORT HOURLY)
Job Goal:
Assist in the preparation and processing of payroll for the district and perform related duties.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent, including appropriate business courses
- Minimum two years of data entry and clerical experience; payroll and school district experience desired
- Ability to use standard office equipment with speed and accuracy
- Strong math skills
- Computer proficiency to include the use of basic software applications (Word, Excel, etc.) and Google (Docs, Sheets)
- Ability to work with a computerized system
- Knowledge of IRS payroll rules and regulations
- Ability to organize, prioritize, problem solve, and meet deadlines with accurate attention to detail while working with frequent interruptions
- Ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written) with district personnel at all levels and the public
- Knowledge of and adherence to district policies and procedures affecting assigned work
Core Job Functions:
- Compute, code, extend, verify, and check payroll data for all school district employees
- Trace errors and make adjustments as needed
- Make arithmetic calculations of payroll earnings, deductions, and post to the record
- Make journal entries when required on code changes
- Maintain and update a variety of files and records
- Place and receive telephone calls relating to payroll and inform appropriately
- Operate general office equipment, including a computer
- Prepare a variety of reports and records relating to payroll
- Compute payroll from timesheets
- Perform other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position
