Security Guard

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF JOB: (other duties may be assigned)

• Make security rounds of the hospital and hospital grounds.

KEY MEASURES:

• Make sure patients and Hospital staff are as safe as possible.
• Ensure that all building and grounds are as secure as possible.
• Check all door alarms daily to ensure they are in working order and that they are set so patients cannot exit the hospital.
• Lock all outside doors on a daily basis to ensure the security of the Hospital.

• Provide basic assistance for patients and staff.

KEY MEASURES:

• Move patient cars form the Emergency Room parking lot to the upper parking lot to keep the emergency lot clear for the arrival of ambulances.
• Assist with combative patients to provide protection of nursing personnel.
• Move patients from one department to another with assistance of nursing staff.
• Jump start cars when car batteries are drained.

• Perform general maintenance duties.

KEY MEASURES:

• Move various items in the Hospital.
• Change oxygen tanks to ensure there are adequately full oxygen tanks on the floor if needed. Change nitrous oxide tank for the Operating Room.
• Reset elevators so visitors can get to the Nursing Departments or parking lot and Hospital personnel can get patient’s to their rooms. .
• Clean up various spills to prevent people from slipping and falling.
• Shovel snow to ensure walkways and steps are free from snow.

• Provide assistance to staff.

KEY MEASURES:

• Take call sheets to floors to inform nurses of which physician is on call.
• Take litters back to the Emergency Room to ensure there are enough litters.
• Escort nurses to their vehicles for protection purposes so nurses do not have to leave the hospital alone.
• Take cadavers to the morgue so the funeral director can pick up the cadaver and the nurse can clean the bed for the next patient.
• Take bed scale to CCU or Wing 3 so departments can weigh patients.
• Provide assistance on the Helopad by turning on lights for the helicopter landing and take the litter to the Helopad.

OTHER DUTIES OF JOB:

• Complete the daily surveillance rounds report.
• Participate in fire drills.
• Respond to code black, blue, pink, winhos.
• Perform other related duties as assigned or required.
• Follow standard precaution guidelines.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Supervision is received by the Safety Officer.

SUPERVISION ADMINISTERED:

This position typically does not require the supervision of staff.

MENTAL/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF JOB:

The ability to work a predictable schedule, establish own goals, work closely with others, maintain much routine paperwork and utilize creativity. The ability to constantly walk, climb stairs, reach, withstand repetitive twisting or pressure involving wrists or hands, communicate orally, hear conversation and use specific visual requirements is also typically required. The ability to frequently lift between ten and 25 pounds, push between 20 and 25 pounds and operate a motor vehicle is also typically required. The ability to occasionally stand, sit, lift between 40 and 65 pounds, carry approximately 30 pounds, pull between 30 and 100 pounds, stoop, kneel, repeatedly bend, use repetitive finger movement and use rapid mental/muscular coordination simultaneously is also typically required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position typically requires:

Constant work inside and outside, working alone and contact with patients; frequent work outside, working with moving vehicles and exposure to blood and bodily fluids; occasional work in heat between 90-100 degrees Fahrenheit, work in cold below 55 degrees Fahrenheit, wetness, dry atmospheric conditions, exposure to fumes and dust, exposure to boiler chemicals, exposure to motor grease/oils, work with ladders/scaffold, work with hand in water and work more than 40 hours per week.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:

This position typically requires:

Eye shield and work gloves.

• Education/Training/License/Certification:

High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.

Valid driver’s license required.

• Work Experience:

One to three months related experience and/or training preferred.

• Driving Record:

If deemed a driver in your position, a valid Driver’s license and proof of insurance are required. Motor Vehicle Record checks will be performed upon hire, in addition to annually thereafter.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
• Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
