Position Overview:
The Patient Billing Specialist plays a vital role in ensuring accurate and timely billing operations for behavioral health services. This position requires strong attention to detail, knowledge of insurance processes, and a commitment to supporting client access to care through efficient revenue cycle management. The role also requires compliance with updated 42 CFR Part 2 regulations, which now align more closely with HIPAA and allow for streamlined consent and redisclosure processes for substance use disorder records.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct visit reconciliation to ensure all clinical services are accurately documented and billed.
- Verify insurance coverage and eligibility for behavioral health services.
- Prepare and submit initial and corrected claims to insurance payers.
- Manage claim denials, including research, appeals and resolution.
- Post insurance and client payments into the billing system.
- Monitor and follow up on client balances, including payment plans and collections.
- Communicate with clients regarding billing questions and insurance issues.
- Collaborate with clinical and administrative staff to ensure billing accuracy and compliance.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 regulations.
Qualifications:
- Associate degree in a business-related field required.
- Billing experience preferred, especially in behavioral health or substance use disorder services.
- Proficiency in insurance verification, eligibility checks and claims processing.
- Experience with EHR and billing software.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Pay: $20.00 - $24.00 per hour
