Champlain College is seeking an enthusiastic junior designer with strong digital design skills to join the College's Institutional Marketing & Web Services team. Reporting to the Director of Institutional Marketing & Web Services, the Assistant Graphic Designer produces the digital and graphic designs to meet the communications needs for Institutional Marketing. This will include executing web- and print-based initiatives, as well as presentations, templates, photo research and image editings. Additionally, the person in this position will work with print vendors to estimate and schedule Institutional Marketing print projects. We're looking for a team player with excellent attention to detail who has an understanding of design systems, user experience, and web design, plus has an innate aptitude for layout, color, and typography as they relate to the principles of branding and brand marketing.
SIGNIFICANT DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
This role is an active contributor on the Institutional Marketing & Web Services team for the creative design needs of College web properties, as well as other digital and print promotional content.
- Web Design: Following the design system and applying critical thinking skills to meet the objectives of the project, create tailored layouts for web use (including selection, sizing and placement of images, copy, call outs, videos, images, and motion graphics) to support storytelling and/or conversion success.
- Web Production: Build pages in Wordpress CMS. Proofread text, check spelling, and perform other minor edits on designs prior to go live.
- Image Production: Ability to select, re-touch photography, color correct, size, and manipulate images for digital and print use cases. Assist with hiring resources for photo and video shoots for Institutional Marketing; may attend shoots as needed.
- Print Production: Production or original design layout for print (flyers, brochures, programs, etc.). Work with print vendors to select any materials to meet print project deadlines and to estimate and schedule institutional print projects.
- Administrative: Manage all projects within the Workfront project management system. Staff College events for various offices and purposes, like Open House and Champlain Weekend. Participate in College-wide meetings, like Employee Appreciation Luncheon and Town Hall meetings.
Requirements:
- Associate or Bachelor's degree in graphic design, digital design, marketing, fine arts, art, advertising, communications or a related field or equivalent experience, and one to three years professional experience in a digital graphic design role, preferably in a marketing department or agency environment.
- Must possess an understanding of design systems, user experience, and web design, plus have an innate aptitude for layout, color, and typography. Should have excellent production design skills and strong graphic design skills with a demonstrated ability to construct a cohesive narrative in digital formats.
- Interactive/digital production experience preferred; Digital design portfolio should showcased solutions to business problems through design.
- Strong computer skills with a command of Adobe Creative Cloud (including InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and XD)
- Proven attention to detail and a solid understanding of / interest in the principles of branding and brand marketing.
- Demonstrated copy editing/proofreading skills.
- Experience with Google suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides) required
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent attention to detail, fantastic communication and collaboration skills, and an ability to work independently while playing nicely with others.
- Experience working within WordPress CMS a plus
- Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, CMS, and Javascript a big plus

Salary : $36,900 - $46,700
