TITLE AND CLASSIFICATION: Research Support Technician I, Support Team
REPORTING LOCATION: Rockville, MD
REPORTS TO: Manager, Laboratory Operations
PRIMARY OBJECTIVES: Provide general technical support for in vivo oncology studies in mice.
Duties And Responsibilities
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

REPORTS TO: Manager, Laboratory Operations
PRIMARY OBJECTIVES: Provide general technical support for in vivo oncology studies in mice.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Provide in vivo technical support for oncology studies with mice
- Tumor volume measurements with calipers for stock mice
- Randomization of animals onto study
- Body weight measurements in LIMS
- Removal of Surgical Staples
- Euthanasia of animals
- Perform general study preparation and laboratory organization
- Movement of Animals to Other team locations
- Preserve room organization
- Assist with Pre-Op care, including but not limited to shaving
- Additional responsibilities as deemed necessary
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Strong mouse technical in vivo skills
- Ability to work effectively and productively in a team-oriented environment while maintaining a strong sense of accountability, integrity and confidentiality.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong general computer usage skills (email, spreadsheets, databases)
- Willingness to assist with other duties in a dynamic environment
- Eagerness to learn and master new skills
- Strong focus on animal welfare
- Ability to observe safety and security procedures
- Preferred: BS degree in animal science, biology, or related field.
- Preferred: AALAS ALAT certification
- Must be able to sit and use hands to finger, handle and feel
- Must be able to lift and move packages weighing up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time in a typical laboratory environment
- Some activities require repetitive motion and reaching, pulling or pushing
- In carrying out the duties of the job there will be frequent exposure to fumes/chemical hazards
- Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluid and tissue
