Summary

The position of Packaging Supervisor has primary responsibility to ensure the safe and efficient operation of all aspects of the Company’s finished product at its manufacturing facility in Auburn, KY. This position is required to provide appropriate leadership, direction and supervision to packaging team members and to promote awareness and understanding of corporate policies, procedures and practices regarding health and safety in the workplace.

The Supervisor is also responsible for ensuring that all finished kibble and packaging meets and reflects the Company’s quality assurance specifications and principles. Supports company initiatives to achieve goals and the Champion Petfoods vision “to be trusted by pet lovers worldwide.”

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that physical specifications for packaging finished product meet established corporate standards, and that all packaging, pallet wrapping and labeling is performed according to established quality protocols.
  • Organize the flow of finished product to the packaging lines to achieve established productivity goals, ensuring bin capacity availability for consistent/uninterrupted extrusion of product
  • Complete all relevant required information and/or documentation in an accurate and timely manner, including recording all packaging completed and the empty packaging used and/or destroyed
  • Develop and demonstrate good communication practices and successful internal working professional relationships with departmental staff, including providing clear, accurate and timely information regarding the status of product being packaged
  • Assess the work performance of reporting employees on a regular basis and implement appropriate corrective measures as required, and express encouragement and appreciation when appropriate
  • Demonstrate leadership, coaching and/or mentoring in order to motivate staff and to support the creation of a team environment
  • Ensure complete production/maintenance recordkeeping is maintained in an accurate and timely manner and in accordance with established corporate and departmental practices and procedures
  • Participate in annual physical inventory as determined by the Company
  • Effectively and efficiently maintain daily payroll records of direct reports in HRIS Time & Attendance.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area in accordance with established corporate policies, procedures and health and safety regulations
  • Develop awareness and understanding of the Company’s policies, practices and procedures related to health and safety, food safety and the environment and commit to personal compliance with same
  • Leads by example utilizing the Company’s Core Values as the basis of critical decisions. This includes following Company policies, standards and specifications.
  • Responsible for the knowledge, understanding, and enforcement of all company policies and regulations. Works to ensure Vision, Core Values and Culture is understood and followed by all employees, starting with her/his behavior of leading by example.
  • Assist with selection and training Team Members and work with Human Resources to resolve personnel problems.
  • Maintain a non-union status by responding positively and openly to the diversity and needs of work team through direct, open and honest communication.
  • Develop team members through coaching and education in areas such as production, interpersonal skills, safety, quality and leadership. Documenting and reporting safety hazards or quality issues.
  • Provide a safe, harmonious, non-threatening work environment to his/her Team Members which promotes productivity and creativity through: Responsibility in ensuring good training and orientation programs are being followed when new employees join the company or new products, equipment or policies are being implemented. Scheduling and leading employee meetings, facilitate problem-solving using creative and innovative ideas. Properly counseling and coaching team and taking disciplinary action when needed. Keeping employees informed of performance and schedules. Following up on employee concerns and issues. Providing employee recognition to promote morale and improve performance
  • Support and represent the Company in community sponsored events.
  • Perform additional assignments as per the Production Manager’s direction.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in in manufacturing, engineering or business administration preferred; commensurate experience may be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • Proven mechanical aptitude and adept with tools and equipment.
  • Strong critical thinking ability with sound judgment, decision-making skills, good problem identification and problem resolution skills.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written, with ability to accurately complete required paperwork
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, analytical and interpretive skills.
  • Excellent time, organization and prioritization skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and computer-based applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently or effectively as part of a team across organization boundaries and with diverse teams within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to develop and maintain successful working relationships with diverse individuals/groups.
  • Certification and/or ability to operate a forklift.

  • Working inside a clean, modern, state-of-the-art pet food manufacturing facility, with brand new equipment.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs

The base pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between the range listed above, however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including but not limited to, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, if eligible, including variable pay, medical and dental benefits, participation in 401k plan, and paid time off benefits. Eligibility for these additional elements depend on the position offered and the employee’s work schedule (i.e., part-time schedule, store associate). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an applicant receives an offer of employment.
