Position Overview

The Construction Purchasing Manager oversees the procurement of materials, equipment, and subcontracted services across multiple construction projects. This role ensures cost-effective purchasing, maintains strong vendor relationships, and leverages technology-driven tools to streamline processes, improve forecasting, and support data-driven decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end purchasing for materials, equipment, and subcontracted labor.
  • Develop purchasing strategies to reduce costs and support schedules.
  • Source and evaluate suppliers based on price, quality, and reliability.
  • Issue purchase orders and track deliveries.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Negotiate pricing and contract terms.
  • Conduct vendor performance evaluations.
  • Utilize ERP and construction management systems (Procore, Sage, Viewpoint, CMiC).
  • Implement digital workflows and analyze purchasing data.
  • Train staff on new procurement technology.
  • Collaborate with the Controller on budgets, cost codes, and accounting alignment.
  • Monitor pricing trends and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate procurement documentation and audit trails.
  • Coordinate with project managers, estimators, and field teams regarding material needs.

Qualifications

Required:

  • 5–10 years of construction purchasing or supply chain experience.
  • Strong knowledge of construction materials and subcontractor processes.
  • Proficiency with ERP and procurement technology systems.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and organizational abilities.
  • Successfully operate in a high-volume, fast-paced procurement environment.
  • Able to articulate and discuss cost-savings, cycle-time reduction, lead-time improvements, the number of Purchase orders processed, the dollar amount of projects, the number of suppliers they have dealt with, etc.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, or Construction Management.
  • Experience implementing procurement software.
  • Power BI or advanced analytics capabilities.

Pay: $85,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
