About the Role
Experienced Officers with the City of Champaign protect life and property by enforcing Illinois law and City ordinances. Key responsibilities include:
- Patrolling city neighborhoods, streets, and businesses
- Performing special details and assigned duties
- Assisting fellow officers and outside agencies
- Responding to calls for service and engaging in community problem-solving
- Conducting investigations, gathering evidence, and preparing reports
- Preparing cases for court and testifying when required
- Maintaining accurate documentation and professional standards
Scheduling for testing and interviews is based on departmental need; applications are reviewed weekly.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must:
- Be a post-probationary police officer in the U.S.
- Be in good standing with their current/previous department(s)
- Possess skills and abilities substantially equivalent to a Champaign post-probationary officer, as determined by the Chief of Police
