Youth Volleyball Official

Champaign Park District – Part-Time 2, Non-Exempt (not to exceed 19 hours per week on average)

About the Job

Do you enjoy sports and creating positive experiences for athletes? As a Sports Official, you'll play an important role in ensuring youth and adult league games are safe, fair, and enjoyable for all participants. This position is ideal for individuals who have a strong understanding of sports rules, can make confident decisions under pressure, and enjoy being part of a team-oriented recreation environment.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Officiate youth and/or adult league games and tournaments according to established rules and Park District policies.
  • Make quick, impartial decisions and communicate calls clearly to players, coaches, and spectators.
  • Promote sportsmanship and maintain a safe, positive environment during games.
  • Manage and resolve conflicts effectively and professionally.
  • Mentor and support less experienced officials when needed.
  • Attend required meetings, training sessions, and workshops.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor while on duty.
  • Follow all Park District safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.
  • Adapt to officiating different recreation activities as assigned.
  • Work evenings and weekends based on program schedules.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Must be at least thirteen (13) years old; candidates under sixteen (16) must have a valid work permit. 
  • Knowledge of rules for applicable sport(s)  
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, participants, and spectators.
