Summer Youth Program Leader for ALL Location

The Summer Youth Program (SYP) Leader is responsible for planning and implementing youth program activities and supervising and leading children in the program. Trips to the pool are made regularly where SYP Leaders are expected and required to dress and get into the pool to interact with participants

Douglas Summer Youth Program:
Held at Douglass Community Center, each week their daily activities are led according to the themes and will include games, crafts, playtime at the splash pad and more.

Leonhard Summer Youth Program:
Held at Leonhard Recreation Center, each week will include sports, arts, fitness outdoor activates, swimming, field trips and so much more.

Creative Kids Summer Youth Program:
Held at Springer Cultural Center, participants will put their creative minds and hands to work! Along with traditional activities, swimming, and field trips, this program offers children an introduction to arts, crafts, dance and performing arts.

Champaign Urbana Recreation Center CUSR) Summer Youth Program:
Held at the CUSR Center, participants will enjoy games, crafts sports, cooking, swimming, field trips, and more. CUSR Summer Programs offers a safe and structured environment to explore, expand, and enjoy. The program is open to any individual who has a disability. Goals of the program are for the participants to learn new skills, increase their independence, increase peer interaction, socialization, motor functioning and development and community awareness.

• Must be at least 16 years of age
• Ability to lead recreational activities for children at assigned age level
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Park District staff and the general public

SUPERVISION

The Summer Youth Program Leader reports directly to the Summer Youth Program Director at each specific site

TRAINING CAN BE OBTAINED THROUGH CHAMPAIGN PARK DISTRICT

• Bloodborne pathogen training
• CPR, First Aid, and AED certification through American Heart Association or accredited agency
• Heads Up concussion training through the Center for Disease Control
• Facility training
• Harassment prevention training
• Anyone who will be driving a Champaign Park District vehicle will need to complete and pass a driving test from one of our certified Champaign Park District trainers
• Mandated reporter certification

CLASSIFICATION

• Non-Exempt, hourly
• Seasonal position May to August

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Follow all Champaign Park District safety policies and perform all work in a manner that ensures the safety of the public, fellow employees, and themselves
• Plan, organize and implement the youth program and activities
• Supervise volunteers in leading youth program activities
• Maintain program and participant records
• Responsible for attendance procedures
• Wear a swimsuit and get in the water to supervise campers
• Maintain good public relations with participants, parents, other staff members, and the general public
• Responsible for the maintenance and safe and proper use of program supplies
• Maintain the program environment in a clean and orderly fashion
• Maintain a safe and secure environment for participants
• Responsible for maintaining an open line of communication with the Youth Program Director regarding all situations concerning the program, its participants and the staff
• Communicate effectively with staff, participants and parents
• Other duties as assigned

• Must be able to respond to problem situations in a mature manner and within the policies and procedures of the Champaign Park District

• May need to respond quickly and accurately
• Must be able to be physically active to lead activities and field trips
• Must be willing to supervise children in chlorinated water
