The Community Living Skills Teacher assists persons served with developmental disabilities to learn skills needed for activities of daily living, community living, volunteerism, community inclusion, and social/recreational participation. Services are provided at both PCADD's day program facility as well as in community settings.
Primary Job Duties & Competencies: (NOTE: PCADD will provide the necessary training for employees to develop these competencies during their initial 90-day orientation period.)
- Supports participants with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in the development of friendships and other relationships in the community.
- Provides services and supports using a person-centered approach.
- Promotes the health and wellness of all persons served, both physically and emotionally.
- Enhances the ability of persons served to lead a self-determined life by providing the support and information necessary to build self-esteem and assertiveness and to make everyday life decisions to the best of their ability.
- Knows the formal and informal supports available in the community, and knows how to assist participants in identifying and gaining access to such supports.
- Is knowledgeable about the challenges facing participants, and is able to identify and use effective advocacy strategies to overcome such challenges.
- Is knowledgeable about crisis prevention, intervention, and resolution techniques, and is able to match such techniques to particular circumstances and individuals.
- Is familiar with the mission, vision, and values of PCADD as an organization and participates in the development and improvement of PCADD as an organization.
- Is aware of the requirements for documentation of services within PCADD, and is able to manage these requirements efficiently.
Job Requirements:
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Previous experience in working with persons with IDD preferred, but not required.
Other Requirements:
- pre-employment drug screen required.
- proof of personal vehicle insurance.
- able to obtain a valid Missouri Class E chauffer's license within 30 days of hire
- successful completion of a criminal background check.
- be at least 18 years of age
