I.  Position Information 

Title: Professional Academic Coach 

Division: Office of Student Success 

Department: Kōkua ʻIke: Center for Student Learning 

Non-Exempt, Part time 

II.  Position Summary 

The successful candidate will provide academic tutoring and life skills coaching support to Chaminade students as a function of Kōkua ʻIke: Center for Student Learning. Utilizing supplementary educational resources and best practices in student instruction and methodology, the Professional Academic Coach is responsible for conducting individual or small group sessions, coordinating and leading workshops as needed, and attending all required training.  The candidate is expected to consider all information, written or verbal, as sensitive and confidential.

    Direct Report to: Tutor Coordinator – Student Success 

IV.    Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

• To assess student learning needs during the session by connecting with the student 
• To implement the most recent and most effective materials and strategies to  maximize the student’s learning potential 
• Maintain constant communication with the Tutor Coordinator with regard to student  progress and any concerns which may arise 
• Confirm Appointments and Cancellations via email 
• Present/Co-present workshops for students focusing on Study Skills, Academic Skills, or Life Skills 
• Attend mandatory Tutor Training sessions and /or one-to-one check-ins with Tutor Coordinator 
• Maintain accurate records of time spent and work completed with each student 
• Help to promote the Tutoring program and its resources 
• Complete other administrative duties or special projects as assigned

VI.   Education and Experience

Minimum

• Bachelor’s Degree 

VII.  Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills. 
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or related software
• High integrity and ethical standards. 

VIII.  Physical Requirements 

Tutoring sessions take place in an office or remotely in a community setting and require a minimum of physical effort with intermittent sitting, standing, climbing stairs, and walking inclines. Must be able to lift 20 pounds, walk the campus with ease, and have excellent motor skills.  Must have finger dexterity. Must be able to communicate information and ideas so that others will understand. 

IX.  Other Requirements: 

• This is a Part-time, Non-Exempt position. Nineteen (19) hours per week (M-F) is the maximum number of paid tutoring hours allowed. Must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends to meet the needs of the tutoring center. 
• Observes all safety and health regulations and works in accordance with safe work procedures and policies of the University. Reports unsafe acts/conditions and injuries in a timely and proper manner
