- Reporting Relationship(s) This position reports to the Director of Athletics and any medical professionals providing direct care of a student athlete.
- Position Summary
- Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide athletic training services for the University athletics program through scheduled training room hours, in attendance at team practices and home and away competitions, as well as in emergency and other necessary-care circumstances.
- Collaborate with team physicians to ensure proper medical care for athletes.
- Maintain accurate medical records and injury reports.
- Stay current on sports medicine research and best practices.
- Collaborate and oversee strength and conditioning programs
- Collaborate and oversee mental health/ wellness programs for student-athletes
- Educate athletes, coaches, and staff on health and wellness topics.
- Provide counseling and support for athletes dealing with injuries or health issues.
- Develop programs for injury prevention, evaluation, management, treatment/rehabilitation, and education for student-athletes
- Coordinate and schedule physical examinations and medical referrals for student-athletes.
- Assist the Director for Athletics in developing/monitoring sports medicine budget.
- Ensure the appropriate allocation of resources for equipment and medical supplies.
- Work with vendors on sponsorship contracts, product and services trade and ordering
- Oversee care and function of athletic training room facilities and equipment.
- Inventory/order all related supplies.
- Oversee all sports medicine record keeping and documentation, including communication with student- athletes (and their families) for all required paperwork and clearances.
- Serve as primary liaison with allied providers—physicians, physical therapists, contracted athletic trainers, and personnel from opposing teams.
- Work with secondary insurance on claims. Work with Insurance brokers to offer primary insurance options for student athletes, and keep athletes in NCAA compliance with insurance coverage
- Collaborate with coaching staff to design training programs that minimize injury risks. Work in conjunction with the strength and conditioning staff to ensure safety in the design and implementation of fitness, nutrition and conditioning programs customized to meet individual student- athlete needs.
- Responsible for the formation of the athletic training staff, including hiring, training, and supervision of assistant/associate athletic trainers and intern athletic trainers.
- Schedule and coordinate athletic training staff and students to cover all team practices and athletic competitions.
- Ensure equitable distribution of travel assignments to all Assistant Athletic Trainers first and act as a backup for any travel assignments that remain after assignments are given to Assistant Athletic Trainers.

- Qualifications
- Master’s degree in sports medicine, athletic training, or related field required.
- Five years of professional athletic training experience.
- Certified by the NATA BOC, State Athletic Training Licensure.
- Familiarity with NCAA governing rules.
- Experience as an Athletic Trainer in any educational institution is required, and experience as an Athletic Trainer at a higher education institution is preferred.
- Supervisory experience is required.
- Strong leadership and team-building skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and work with individuals at all university levels.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Organized and meticulous attention to detail.
- High integrity and ethical standards.
- Must be able to lift 20 pounds, walk the campus with ease, climb a lot of stairs, have excellent motor skills and be able to sit or stand for 30 minutes at a time. Must have finger dexterity.
- Strength & Conditioning Coach Certification preferred.
- Must have a valid Driver’s License.
- This is a full time, exempt position. Forty hours per week (M-F) will be the general rule. However, additional hours or workday schedule changes may be occasionally required depending on the project cycles and workflow demands of the department. Must be willing and able to work occasional nights and weekends and a varying schedule. Some travel may be required.
- Observes all safety and health regulations and works in accordance with safe work procedures and policies of the University. Reports unsafe acts/conditions and injuries in a timely and proper manner.
