QUALIFICATIONS
1. Valid Alabama license to practice as a registered nurse. :
2. Any other certificate required by state law.
Valid CPR Card.
Valid Alabama driver's license.

FLSA STATUS: Exempt SUPERVISED BY: Elementary School Director and Lead Nurse SUPERVISES: Licensed Practical Nurse(s) REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of effective procedures and practices for vision, hearing and other appropriate health screening activities. :
Knowledge of and experience with principles and theories of adult learning for effective staff development and in-service activities.
Knowledge of current general medical and pediatric nursing practices.
Ability to demonstrate effective leadership skills in group settings.
Effective written and oral communication skills.
Ability to organize, maintain and report data and information related to health services.
Ability to use computers or other technology needed to perform job responsibilities.
Ability to use effective public relations skills necessary for the successful implementation of programs, the coordination of committees and to maintain productive relationships with colleagues, school personnel, parents, community resources, other health professionals and students.
Knowledge of Board policies and procedures.
Knowledge of school system functions, departments, personnel and schools necessary for the efficient and effective processing of communications, requesting of needed information and implementation of the school nursing programs.
Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in a fast-paces, high-intensive work environment.
Ability to travel between the schools throughout the school system.
JOB GOAL: To direct and provide healthcare services, health education, and healthcare information to maximize student achievement in the school system.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Assists the administrator in developing school health programs.
Aids in primary prevention and control of communicable diseases.
Supervises and trains designated personnel in the administration of medications and the operation of healthcare equipment (AEDs, etc.)
Supervises designated licensed personnel in the performance of invasive procedures.
Participates in planning and implementing student health plans (504, IEPs, food allergy plans, etc.)
Visits students' homes when necessary.
Assists school personnel in maintaining environmental standards in school.
Speaks to PTA and faculty groups as requested.
Works with community agencies to provide improved health services.
Participates in professional organizations and educational programs.
Administers first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures.
Instructs teachers on screening students for health problems.
Serves as a liaison between health professionals and the school system regarding the health needs of students.
Reports child abuse and neglect to the Department of Human Resources.
Recommends exclusion and readmission of students in compliance with Board policy on infections and contagious diseases/conditions.
Provide effective in-service education on health-related topics for school system personnel.
Coordinates and implements health screenings mandated by state law. (spinal screening, vision, hearing, etc.)
Adheres to rules and regulations.
Maintains confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.
Models and maintains high ethical standards.
Demonstrates initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities.
Maintains expertise in assigned area to fulfill project goals and objectives.
Participates successfully in the training programs offered to increase skill and proficiency related to assignment.
Keeps supervisor informed of potential problems or unusual events.
Responds to inquiries and concerns in a timely manner.
Serves on school/system committees as required or appropriate.
Exhibits interpersonal skills to work as an effective team member.
Demonstrates support for the school system and its goals and priorities.
Demonstrates initiative in identifying potential problems or opportunities for improvement.
Prepares all required reports and maintains all appropriate records.
Assumes other reasonable and equitable job-related duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: The terms of employment shall be in accordance with the provisions of the Board's salary schedule. EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on performance assessment.
Salary : $60,000 - $90,000
