Business Team Lead PBF Energy Inc. (NYSE:PBF) is one of the largest independent refiners in North America, operating through its subsidiaries, oil refineries and related facilities. We are seeking a talented Business Team Lead to join our team as a pivotal member that would play a key role here at PBF Energy. This role is located at Chalmette Refinery in Chalmette, LA. Safety Ensures Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) compliance and drives Process Safety Management System (PSMS) excellence Serves as an active member of the Safe Work Team within assigned area Upholds a meaningful field presence and sets the performance standard for others to maintain Coordinates response and ensures proper follow-up to HSE incidents, including appropriate documentation for all IMPACT reports and Near Miss incidents Supports HSE related audits of unit activities, incident reports, and permits Risk Management Utilizes risk management tools to develop recommendations and to prioritize work Takes ownership of IMPACT compliance by prioritizing completion of open items and holding the organization accountable Leadership Sets shift expectations for Operators and Stillpersons on his/her unit Ensures in-depth awareness of refinery operations at all times by consistently reading each shift report and following up on issues accordingly Engages with the team’s activities including after regular business hours Establishes goals and delivers on commitments Adheres to the approved budget and elevates risk associated with deferrals Holds the whole organization accountable for success Assigns responsibilities and sets clear expectations to the organization and drives accountability of those responsibilities and expectations Leverages functional leaders within various departments to drive success Profitability Ensures that business team project development is aligned with refinery strategy, that projects are adequately resourced at all stages, and that resources of the extended business team are used to ensure successful startup and integration of the project into the business team operation Maximizes unit profitability within defined constraints (EROEs) Understands and challenges operational limits to ensure that the limits are based upon engineering Seeks opportunities to bust constraints and expand operating envelopes Understands equipment bad actors and prioritizes resolution to ensure reliability of operations Prioritizes project efforts to be consistent with refinery goals Ensures the team safely prepares equipment in a timely manner to prevent delays to the maintenance plan Personnel Development Supports the Day Supervisor with shift personnel management and communication processes especially with particular regard to appraisals, discipline, absences, and overtime/resource management Coaches and mentors personnel within assigned area(s) Sets clear job expectations to Front Line Supervision as well as wage personnel and provides clear feedback as needed Coordinates with the Day Supervisor and Field Supervisor to ensure individual training and development opportunities are identified for shift personnel Identifies and develops future Operations leaders through opportunity and training Recognizes and rewards excellent performance Communication Communicates injuries and environmental compliance issues in a timely manner and in compliance with established protocol Ensures clear communication of higher risks is shared upward in the organization Clarifies notable constraints that are limiting profitability versus plan Maintains transparency on challenges that struggle to be resolved by support organizations Ensures offsite communications (e.g., RPS report, IMPACT report, etc.) are clear and accurate to minimize organizational churn JOB QUALIFICATIONS 8 years of experience within a refining/petrochemical setting required Prior supervisory experience required Familiarity with industry process safety and environment regulations, work practices, and compliance strategies as well as knowledge of basic refinery processes, reliability principles, refining economics and basic budgeting and scheduling required Strong troubleshooting, communication, leadership, conflict management, and teamwork skills required Ability to manage during a crisis situation and make effective decisions during an emergency required Understanding of operating units in his/her area of responsibility and interactions between operating units upstream and downstream of his/her unit preferred This description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee.
