Reimagine school. Support students. Change lives.

At ChallengeU, we do high school differently! We’re a fully online dropout recovery and prevention high school, dedicated to helping students aged 14–21 who have fallen behind or disconnected from traditional education. Through flexibility, compassion, and personalized support, we help students reclaim their path to graduation.

Note: While this is primarily a remote position, team members must attend in-person training and travel within Ohio to proctor required state assessments.

What You’ll Do

Whether you’re a literacy expert or a math wizard, you’ll deliver engaging, standards-aligned instruction entirely online — meeting students where they are and helping them build the skills they need to graduate. Your role will include:

  • Classroom Catalyst: Deliver rigorous, standards-aligned instruction in your subject area (ELA or Math, Grades 9–12) using our virtual learning platform — meeting students where they are academically and emotionally.
  • Feedback Guru: Monitor and grade student work, providing individualized feedback that moves students forward.
  • Data Detective: Monitor academic progress using student data tools and LMS platforms, adjusting instruction based on what the data is telling you.
  • IEP Ally: Collaborate with the Special Education team to ensure IEP and 504 accommodations are implemented effectively within your virtual classroom.
  • Connection Captain: Maintain strong, consistent communication with students, families, and graduation coaches to keep everyone aligned on progress and next steps.
  • Office Hours Hero: Provide virtual office hours and small-group tutoring to give students the extra support they need to succeed.
  • Assessment Architect: Prepare students for state assessments and graduation requirements — and travel in person as needed to proctor standardized testing.
  • Team Player: Participate in student support planning and interdisciplinary collaboration, contributing your voice to holistic student success strategies.

If you’re our ELA Teacher, you’ll also:

  • Literacy Leader: Deliver instruction in reading comprehension, literary analysis, writing, vocabulary, and grammar.
  • Writing Coach: Guide students through the full writing process — from brainstorming and drafting to revision and final submission — fostering creativity, voice, and precision.

If you’re our Math Teacher, you’ll also:

  • Math Maestro: Deliver synchronous and asynchronous instruction covering Algebra I & II, Geometry, Math Modeling & Reasoning, Financial Math, Math III/IV, and foundational/remedial courses as needed.

Who You Are

  • A seasoned virtual educator with a track record of real online teaching — the more experience beyond pandemic-era emergency mode, the better.
  • Deeply familiar with virtual platforms like Google Suite, learning management systems, Peardeck, and digital communication tools.
  • Skilled at building relationships with at-risk youth in nontraditional or high-support learning environments.
  • Flexible, student-centered, and able to differentiate instruction and personalize learning pathways.
  • Organized, proactive, and an excellent communicator in writing and on screen.
  • Motivated to be part of a mission-driven team building better outcomes for students who need it most.

What You’ll Need

  • Licensure: Valid Ohio Teaching License in ELA (Grades 7–12 or 9–12) or Math (Grades 7–12 or 9–12) — required.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Mathematics, or a related field — required.
  • Experience: Proven track record teaching ELA or Math at the high school level (Grades 9–12), including Remedial and Credit Recovery courses.
  • Virtual Teaching: Demonstrated success with virtual instruction — including grading, pacing, and online engagement strategies.
  • Tech Skills: Proficiency with Google Classroom, LMS platforms, and digital grading and data tools.
  • Location & Travel: Must reside in Ohio with a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for in-person testing support.
  • Remote Ready: Reliable high-speed internet and ability to work independently in a fully remote environment.
