Job Description

We are looking for an experienced AWS Systems Administrator to manage, maintain, and secure our fully cloud-native infrastructure. In this role, you will take ownership of our dual-platform EC2 fleet running both Linux and Windows Server workloads. You will be responsible for automating vulnerability scanning, driving the multi-platform patching lifecycle, and architecting centralized log aggregation utilizing native AWS services.

Core Responsibilities

AWS Fleet & OS Management

• Provision, configure, and maintain Linux (Amazon Linux, RHEL, Ubuntu) and Windows Server (2019/2022) instances on Amazon EC2.

• Manage identity, access control, and configurations using AWS Directory Service (Managed Active Directory), IAM policies, and Group Policy Objects (GPOs).

• Implement instance lifecycle management, including AMI baking (using EC2 Image Builder), Auto Scaling configuration, and AWS Systems Manager (SSM) agent health. Patching Lifecycle

• Architect and execute automated patch management across all EC2 instances using AWS Systems Manager (SSM) Patch Manager.

• Define custom patch baselines, maintenance windows, and compliance reporting mechanisms for both Linux and Windows operating systems.

• Validate patch deployments in staging environments and troubleshoot failed patch installations using SSM Run Command and Automation workflows.

Vulnerability Scanning & Remediation

• Oversee continuous vulnerability scanning across container registries and EC2 fleets using Tenable I/O and Amazon Inspector.

• Centralize and prioritize security alerts within Splunk and AWS Security Hub.

• Partner with the security team to analyze scan results, evaluate CVE risks, and rapidly remediate configuration drifts or unpatched vulnerabilities.

Log Aggregation & Observability

• Deploy, configure, and maintain centralized log aggregation architectures using Amazon CloudWatch Logs and Amazon Data Firehose.

• Standardize log ingestion from diverse endpoints by configuring the unified CloudWatch agent to stream Windows Event Logs, Linux Syslog, and custom application log files.

• Build CloudWatch dashboards, configure metric filters, and design Amazon SNS alerting mechanisms to detect anomalous activity or infrastructure performance issues.

Technical Skills

• Proficient in Windows Server management and Linux administration (RHEL/Ubuntu/Amazon Linux).

• Deep, hands-on experience with AWS Systems Manager (SSM), Patch Manager, Run Command, and State Manager.

• Strong familiarity with Amazon Inspector, AWS Security Hub, IAM, and EC2 networking (VPC, Security Groups, NACLs).

• Expert knowledge of the unified Amazon CloudWatch Agent, log groups, subscription filters, and structured logging.

• Infrastructure-as-code and automation capabilities using AWS CloudFormation, Terraform, PowerShell, or Bash.

Certifications (Preferred):

• AWS Certified SysOps Administrator – Associate, AWS Certified Security – Specialty, Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA), or MicrosoftCertified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate.

Clearance: Must have the ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance, at minimum

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability or protected veteran status.
