As an Investigator at Chainalysis Government Solutions, you’ll be a world-class problem solver adept at covert analysis and conducting complex investigations. You’ll combine technical knowledge with tenacity and intuition to help our customers with thorny and complex financial crime investigations, helping make the world a safer place.

You are equally adept at proactively conducting research, employing data analysis, writing, and presenting your investigative findings to team members and customers alike. You are comfortable evangelizing the Chainalysis mission of bringing trust to blockchains, and serving as an expert in using our tools and data to develop insights on illicit activity trends in crypto and its impact on our customers. Collaborating with team members and across Chainalysis, you will support the most complex financial crime investigations to meet and exceed customer requirements.

Please note that this role requires you to be physically on-site with the customer in Morgantown, WV.

In this role, you’ll:

  • Support Complex Investigations: Collaborate with team members and across Chainalysis to provide investigative and analytic support for extremely complex, technical, and highly sensitive initiatives pertaining to financial crimes involving cryptocurrencies.

  • Conduct Analysis & Reporting: Conduct research and data analysis, author comprehensive reports of your investigative findings, and present those findings to team members and key customer stakeholders.

  • Assess Data Integrity: Review the adequacy and completeness of investigations and data collection methods to determine the authenticity, veracity, and pertinence of data, resulting in more thorough investigations and analytic assessments.

  • Synthesize Insights & Recommendations: Prepare in-depth summaries of data from extensive research and analysis to set forth actionable recommendations for investigations, lead follow-ups, and potential risks.

  • Evangelize the Mission: Serve as a brand and technical advocate for the Chainalysis mission of bringing trust to blockchains, becoming an expert at using our tools and data to uncover illicit activity trends in crypto.

We’re looking for candidates who have:

  • Clearance: Active Secret Clearance required.

  • Education: A degree in cybersecurity, cyber crime, intelligence, criminal justice, forensic accounting, data analytics, or a related field.

  • Communication Skills: Demonstrated ability to write about complex findings and communicate technical details in a clear, concise, and structured manner.

  • Investigative Experience: 5 years of experience conducting complex financial crime investigations for the federal government, intelligence analysis, law enforcement, or equivalent forensic experience.

  • Open-Source Research: Experience conducting OSINT and open-source research utilizing both public and private databases.

  • Domain Passion: Strong interest in and passion for blockchain and cryptocurrency technology.

Stands Out:

  • Prior experience supporting or working directly with federal law enforcement agencies (e.g., FBI, DEA, HSI, IRS-CI).

  • Background in dark web analysis, fraud investigation, or complex technical/financial analysis.

  • Hands-on experience with blockchain analysis tools and cryptocurrency tracking software.
