Job Description

Title: HEAD COACH

Reports to: Athletic Director

Job Objective: Coaches assigned student athletic activity.

Minimum · Sport-specific coaching skills verified by training and work experience. Meets

Ohio Administrative

Qualifications: Code 3301-27-01 qualifications to direct, supervise, or coach a pupil-activity

program. Monitors training/certification expiration dates and meets all renewal deadlines.

  • Available to work a non-traditional schedule and irregular hours when needed.
  • Embraces high-performance standards (e.g., engagement, proficiency, resilience, etc.).
  • Maintains a record free of criminal violations that prohibit public school employment.
  • Upholds all Ohio High School Athletic Association, school, and state regulations/contest rules.

Preferred Attributes: Active listening, creative problem solving, and good time management skills.

Physical Demand Level1: Medium strength (frequently lifting/carrying 11 to 25 lbs.). Duties require

communicating verbally, crouching, far/near visual acuity, fine/gross manipulation, reaching at or

below shoulder height and overhead, standing/walking, stooping, and using a traditional keyboard.

Note: Contracts are offered to licensed staff with appropriate credentials. Unfilled positions may

Essential Functions

  • Coaches assigned athletic activities. Provides opportunities for students

to enhance skills, build positive peer relationships, and develop leadership

qualities.

  • Manages program compliance with all OHSAA standards. Ensures athletic fields comply with

conference/league and state athletic association regulations.

  • Actively supervises and evaluates assigned personnel. Cultivates staff leadership skills.
  • Prepares end-of-season performance evaluations of all assigned staff, and volunteers.
  • Encourages student participation. Monitors the accuracy of internal-external communications.
  • Develops program information sheets for parent/guardian-student meetings.
  • Conducts professionally administered tryouts to select program participants.
  • Prepares/restores shared program sites. Maintains orderly work/storage areas.
  • Executes a well-designed program plan. Ensures participants receive appropriate instruction,

support, and opportunities to participate. Provides proactive supervision for all program

activities.

  • Confirms student medical emergency authorization forms are up-to-date and readily available.
  • Assists with physical education waiver verification when authorized.
  • Identifies strength and conditioning activities best suited for each sport. Verifies equipment

is appropriate for the physical development and skill level of each participant. Teaches safety

precautions and proper training techniques.

  • Evaluates individual/team performance. Prepares statistics. Develops/refines game strategies.

Communicates accurate/timely scores and post-game reports to appropriate media as directed.

  • Coordinates off-season activities (e.g., practice schedules, training clinics, etc.).
  • Ensures program activities are self-sustaining except when authorized by the administration.
  • Provides opportunities for program participants to critique activities and suggest enhancements.
  • Maintains effective document and records management systems. Prepares timely files. Monitors

reporting deadlines. Complies with district records retention and disposal policies.

  • Diligently attends to job details. Pursues quality results. Performs all aspects of the job.
  • Develops mutually respectful relationships with co-workers. Functions as part of a cohesive

team.

  • Maintains a professional appearance. Wears work attire appropriate for the position.
  • Respects privacy. Ensures the veracity and security of confidential information.
  • Sustains an acceptable attendance record. Consistently complies with established work schedules.
