The Visitation Specialist provides supportive services to children and families involved in foster care and adoption, with a primary focus on supervised visitations, parental mentoring, and transportation. This role ensures the safety and well-being of children during visits, offers parenting guidance to biological parents, and helps facilitate meaningful family connections. Responsibilities include transporting clients, documenting visit activities, coordinating schedules, and reporting concerns to child welfare staff. The Visitation Specialist is expected to maintain a professional, respectful, and confidential approach while upholding agency policies and regulatory standards. Evening and flexible hours may be required to accommodate visit and travel needs.
Key Responsibilities – Visitation Specialist
- Supervised Visitation Support
Supervise parent-child visitations, ensuring safety and appropriate interaction.
Provide parenting instruction and guidance to biological parents during visits.
Record and document visit activities accurately and promptly.
- Transportation Services
Transport children and/or biological parents to and from supervised visitations, medical appointments, therapy, or other approved services.
- Parental Mentorship
Serve as a mentor and role model to parents, offering support and developmental feedback.
- Coordination and Communication
Coordinate visitation schedules, considering availability of both foster and biological parents.
Report any concerns or incidents to the assigned Child Welfare Specialist promptly.
- Professional Conduct & Compliance
Adhere to all agency policies, procedures, and state regulations.
Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professional communication at all times.
Attend required trainings, meetings, and maintain all mandated certifications.
- General Duties
Contribute to a positive, respectful, and safe work environment.
Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor or agency needs.

Skill Based Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Experience working with children and/or families preferred
- Valid driver’s license and eligibility to transport clients per DCFS requirements
- Proof of current auto insurance (if using personal vehicle)
- Must pass a drug screen, medical exam, TB test, and criminal background check
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and clear communication
