The Foster Care Therapist provides individual, group, family, and in-home therapy services to children and families involved in foster care and adoption services. This role includes conducting clinical assessments, developing and implementing treatment plans, and offering clinical consultation to support clients’ therapeutic needs. The Therapist is responsible for the timely and accurate completion of all required clinical documentation in compliance with Medicaid, licensing, accreditation, and agency standards.

Services are delivered in alignment with the Chaddock treatment model and the highest professional and ethical standards. The Therapist works collaboratively with foster parents, biological families, Child Welfare Specialists, and internal treatment teams to address trauma, attachment-related concerns, behavioral challenges, and mental health needs. Ongoing participation in clinical supervision, professional development, and training—both as a participant and provider—is required.


Key Responsibilities – Foster Care Therapist

  • Provide individual, group, family, and in-home therapy to children in foster care and their families, addressing mental health, behavioral, trauma, and attachment-related needs.
  • Conduct comprehensive clinical assessments and develop, implement, and review individualized treatment plans.
  • Complete all required clinical documentation (assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, reviews, and discharge summaries) accurately and within established timeframes.
  • Ensure documentation meets Medicaid, licensing, accreditation, and agency quality standards.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with clients, families, treatment team members, supervisors, and external partners.
  • Collaborate with foster parents, biological parents, Child Welfare Specialists, and other providers to support client stability and progress.
  • Provide consultation and guidance to foster parents and biological parents regarding child behaviors and therapeutic interventions.
  • Participate in individual and group clinical supervision and contribute to treatment team meetings.
  • Attend and complete required training and pursue ongoing professional development.
  • Provide or coordinate training and education for foster parents as needed.

Skill Based Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Social Work or Human Services Field.  Experience working with children, adolescents and their families preferred.
  •  Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), preferred.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to listen actively and communicate clearly with youth, families, and team members.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to assess situations and find constructive solutions quickly.
  • Professional Boundaries: Maintaining appropriate relationships and confidentiality.
  • Teamwork: Collaborating well with supervisors, colleagues, and external agencies.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to work varied shifts including evenings.
