Role Overview:
The Instrumentation & Controls Engineer will support team members and clients during various phases of project development, from conceptual design through EPC and operations.
Responsibilities will include:
· Project responsibility includes all aspects of I&C design from feasibility to front end engineering design to construction to operation
· Creates, reviews and approves concepts, designs, drawings, specifications, etc.
· Plans and schedules team activities with other engineering disciplines, forecasting staffing needs, and monitoring schedule and budget performance while completing design activities and supporting construction and commissioning efforts.
· Supports project contract requirements and associated industry codes and standards.
· Supports new project estimating activities.
· Serves as key contact with the Client on project-related issues.
· Fully contributing member of a project team or standalone asset depending on job assignment or requirement. Often leads projects or the solving of problems related to new equipment processes, designs or equipment currently in service.
· Shares opinions, ideas and resources with others to achieve common goals; fosters teamwork and collaboration, builds trust. Fosters commitment in the face of major obstacles.
· Willingness to learn, understand, document and share technology related to all CH·IV work products and related processes whereby fostering a collaborative environment.
· Works with Third Party vendors and inspectors.
· Accompanies Management, when necessary, providing technical expertise in sales efforts.
- · Visits customers as needed to ensure client’s questions regarding work product are addressed. This could entail facility, office or vendor site visits.
Requirements:
CH-IV is a dynamic team, serving a variety of projects, each with its unique demands and priorities. The suitable candidate must be self-motivated, have a growth mindset, value team work, be proactive, and have strong time management skills.
· Minimum ten years Instrument and Controls experience including design, construction and operation.
· Minimum five years of Project Management/Project Engineering/Project Coordination experience.
· Hold and maintain professional engineering stamps in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Maryland.
· Familiar working in an Instrumentation & Control system design environment including engineering work sequencing, scheduling and interdisciplinary design.
· Knowledge of engineering team roles, construction roles and commissioning roles.
· Ability to professionally communicate both in written and verbal forms to clients and project leadership.
· Experience planning and scheduling engineering activities, monitoring performance, and coordinating with other disciplines including experience managing an engineering group or effort.
· General working knowledge of electrical and mechanical engineering.
· Specific knowledge of:
¨ Analog and digital instrumentation, such as process (temperature, flow and pressure control loops), PLCs, transmitters, control and measurement, auxiliary devices, signal conditioners, annunciators, machinery monitoring systems, analyzer, etc.
¨ Distributed control systems (familiarity with systems such as Allen Bradley and Delta V).
¨ Instrument piping: small-bore pneumatics, materials, control valves, installation details, etc.
¨ Basic knowledge of low voltage (< 120V a-c, 24V d-c)
¨ Ability to navigate the National Electrical Code, familiarity with IEEE and ANSI standards, and State codes.
¨ AutoCAD skills a plus.
· In depth working experience developing and interpreting Process Flow Diagrams, Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams, Electrical One-Line Diagrams, Cause & Effect Matrices, Network Architecture diagrams and Instrument Data Sheets.
· Demonstrated ability to multi-task and have flexible work approach as projects and tasks change or vary in complexity, depending upon project requirements.
· Ability to communicate technical content for CAD Technicians to create engineering drawings and documents for design and construction purposes.
· Ability to review and analyze EPC bid documents and make recommendations for contract awards.
· High competency with Microsoft Office and good computer and organizational skills.
