This role blends technical leadership, solution architecture, secure development practices, and hands‑on engineering expertise to deliver scalable, resilient, and compliant systems aligned with federal IT and cybersecurity standards.
Your future duties and responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive requirements gathering, business analysis, and solution design in collaboration with OCIO stakeholders and technical teams.
- Develop and enhance application modules, system features, and enterprise capabilities across backend, frontend, and cloud-native environments.
- Implement secure development and coding practices consistent with National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) guidance and federal cybersecurity requirements.
- Support backend engineering, database development, data modeling, data pipelines, and the creation and maintenance of Application Programming Interfaces (APIs).
- Architect and optimize infrastructure for performance, scalability, automation, and reliability across on‑premise, cloud, and hybrid environments.
- Maintain and evolve comprehensive system architecture documentation, technical roadmaps, and design artifacts.
- Integrate workflow engines, business logic systems, automation frameworks, and DevOps pipelines to enhance system efficiency and maintainability.
- Ensure architectural alignment with federal cybersecurity standards and data interoperability requirements, including the Open Security Controls Assessment Language (OSCAL).
- Provide technical mentorship, guidance, and leadership to engineering teams throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Collaborate closely with stakeholders to ensure solutions meet mission objectives, compliance requirements, and long-term modernization goals.
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Engineering, Computer Science, or related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience architecting, designing, and maintaining enterprise software systems.
- Demonstrated experience supporting federal information technology environments, including security and compliance requirements.
- Proven expertise in:
– Backend development, APIs, and systems integration
– Frontend engineering and modern UI frameworks
– Database engineering, data architecture, and analytics
– Security engineering and secure coding practices
– Workflow engines, business logic engines, and automation
– DevOps, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code
- Knowledge of cybersecurity data standards and interoperability frameworks, including OSCAL.
- Relevant industry certifications preferred (e.g., AWS/Azure/GCP Architect, CISSP, TOGAF, SAFe).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to design solutions in complex technical environments.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for both technical and executive audiences.
- Experience leading cross-functional development teams and mentoring technical staff.
- Ability to deliver high-quality solutions in fast-paced, mission-driven federal program settings.
