Position Summary: The Safety Engineer works with the Safety Director and Project Management teams to manage health and safety risks associated with construction projects and company operations. This individual works to ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, county and local safety regulations. The Safety Engineer proactively plans, develops, directs and implements CG Schmidt’s safety programs with the goal of creating a safe, healthy and accident-free work environment.
Expected Outcomes:

Position Responsibilities:

- Develop, prepare, and implement internal CG Schmidt safety and health program materials, documentation, policies, and procedures.
- Ensure that company, federal, state, and local safety, health, and environmental laws, regulations, codes, and rules are observed.
- Ensure job sites have all required safety signage and notices properly posted.
- Accompany government agencies on jobsite inspections.
- Monitor, review, and stop any activities or actions that will result in injury, illness, or property damage.
- Organize and/or attend pre-job safety planning meetings to identify potential hazards prior to starting work and help develop strategies for mitigating such hazards.
- Review and ensure equipment utilized meets requirements for safe use and operation.
- Coordinate project safety and health programs with subcontractors.
- Help prepare project-specific emergency response plans.
- Inspect job site emergency supplies for adequacy and completeness.
- Identify and work with project management personnel needing assistance, training, or discipline in meeting corporate safety and health guidelines and goals.
- Investigate and analyze near-miss, bodily injury, and property damage incidents and assist with the development of Incident Reports.
- Review incidents to identify root cause(s) and recommend corrective action, where appropriate.
- Perform health evaluations in work environments.
- Provide safety and health training and education for Company personnel.
- Provide updated information to employees regarding safety and health requirement changes and regulatory impacts.
- Assist with toolbox talks, Superintendent/Foremen meetings, project safety orientations, and Safety Committee Meetings.
- Assist with implementation of the SafeStart behavioral health safety program.
- Attend industry related meetings and conferences.
- Assist in planning, organizing, and implementing the company’s Annual Safety Banquet.
- Communicate regularly and as-needed with the Safety Director; the Director of Field Operations; the Chief Operating Officer; and the company President regarding matters of importance to workplace health and safety.
