The Development Manager plays an important role advancing the organization’s fundraising goals by overseeing development operations, managing donor data, supporting proposal and impact statement writing and coordinating donor cultivation events. This position focuses on creating, maintaining and optimizing fundraising operations that enable CFP Board to grow corporate and individual giving and that deepen donor engagement. Reporting to the Director of Development, the role will manage gift processing and oversight, donor prospect research, prepare gift solicitation proposals and donor impact reports. The Development Manager will be responsible for the accuracy and timely handling of all gift information in support of CFP Board’s program strategies and initiatives.  This role includes both back-end systems and donor interaction. 

Key Responsibilities:

Development Operations:

  • Ensure every donation or pledge is accurately recorded and processed promptly.
  • Generate timely acknowledgements and receipts to donors, which are essential for maintaining donor satisfaction and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Answer and assist all donors and prospects that call seeking to make a gift or with inquiries of an existing pledge.
  • In partnership with Finance, establish and execute processes for invoicing donors and tracking progress on multi-year pledges.
  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with Corporate and individual Donors by successfully utilizing customer relationship management and performing ongoing research on current and potential corporate partners.
  • Track and report on fundraising progress, donor reporting deadlines, donor trends and campaign performance.
  • Run financial action reports. 

Proposal and Impact Statement Support:

  • Collaborate with program and communications teams to develop compelling proposals and impact reports for individual and corporate donors and prospects.
  • Work with the Marketing and Communications departments to update the development sections of the organization’s website, create direct response appeals, press releases, communications plans, and social media.
  • Maintain a library of organizational materials, success stories and data to support fundraising communications.
  • Develop understanding of CFP Board strategic goals, program priorities and success measures.
  • Manage systems and software, including our donor database and wealth screening tools to track and cultivate donors and prospects.

Donor Cultivation and Stewardship:

  • Plan and execute donor cultivation and stewardship events, including logistics, invitations and follow-up. 
  • Support relationship-building efforts with donors through personalized communications and engagement strategies. 
  • Work closely with Director of Development to track and execute moves management for major donors, who have the potential to give 5-7 figure gifts.
  • Generate major gift donor proposals by conducting donor research.

Background/Skills/Abilities Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, preferably in a related field
  • A minimum of 4-5 years of experience in nonprofit development, fundraising operations or donor relations
  • Proficiency with donor management systems (Salesforce experience strongly preferred)
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, with experience in proposal and impact report development.
  • High level of professionalism and ability to work well with all levels of internal management, staff and volunteers
  • Strong donor focus, attention to detail and high-quality work
  • Passion for the mission of the Center for Financial Planning and the ability to communicate its urgency and impact
  • Excellent time and project management skills; self-starter able to work independently, accurately and on schedule and serve as an effective member of a team
  • Tactful exercise of judgment and discretion with sensitive and highly confidential information
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; high degree of emotional intelligence; demonstrated ability to relate well with individuals, both internally and externally
  • Entrepreneurially-inclined; resourceful, proactive, and results-driven

This position is based in the Washington D.C. office and works a hybrid schedule which could be changed at any time.

Salary : $63,500 - $77,500
