INTERIM ASSISTANT CONTROLLER

THE OPPORTUNITY:
Our client is an established, growth-oriented organization seeking an experienced Interim Assistant Controller to provide hands-on accounting leadership during a period of increased activity and evolving business needs. This consultant will work closely with finance and accounting leadership to support the financial close, reporting, reconciliations, audit readiness, internal controls, and day-to-day accounting operations. The role offers the opportunity to make an immediate impact by improving accuracy, strengthening processes, and helping the organization build a more efficient and scalable accounting environment.
The ideal candidate is a practical, technically strong accounting professional who can quickly assess priorities, manage competing deadlines, and operate effectively with limited ramp-up time.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, supporting schedules, and balance-sheet analyses.
- Support accounting for revenue, expenses, cost-related activity, reserves, and other recurring transactions.
- Review financial results, investigate variances, and resolve accounting discrepancies.
- Assist with the accounting and reconciliation of operationally significant balance-sheet and income-statement accounts.
- Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, vendor activity, customer-related transactions, and working-capital accounts.
- Prepare audit schedules, reconciliations, supporting documentation, and responses to auditor requests.
- Strengthen close checklists, account-review procedures, documentation standards, and reconciliation processes.
- Assist with the maintenance and improvement of accounting policies, internal controls, approval workflows, and reporting procedures.
- Partner with Finance, Operations, and other internal stakeholders to resolve accounting matters and improve financial visibility.
- Support cash-flow inputs, working-capital analysis, management reporting, and ad hoc accounting projects.
- Identify opportunities to improve close efficiency, reporting accuracy, control effectiveness, and process scalability.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Seven or more years of progressive accounting, audit, financial reporting, or controllership experience.
- Previous experience at the Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, Senior Accounting Manager, or comparable level.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, monthly close, account reconciliations, accruals, financial reporting, internal controls, and audit support.
- Experience working within an operationally complex organization with meaningful transaction volume and balance-sheet activity.
- Exposure to inventory, cost accounting, reserves, working capital, similarly complex accounting areas is preferred.
- Experience preparing audit-ready schedules and supporting documentation.
- Advanced Excel skills and experience working with ERP and financial reporting systems.
- Ability to operate independently in an interim consulting environment and quickly establish priorities.
- Strong communication and cross-functional partnership skills.
- Hands-on, detail-oriented approach with the ability to manage competing deadlines.
- Availability to support a multi-month interim consulting assignment.
Pay: $75.00 - $90.00 per hour
