Position Summary
The Warehouse 2/QC Technician is a mid-level operational role focused on the quality control, testing, and maintenance of CFG’s rental inventory. This position ensures that every piece of equipment leaving the warehouse meets the highest standards of safety and performance for our film and television clients.
This role requires a technically minded individual with a deep understanding of lighting, grip, and production equipment. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, capable of identifying subtle equipment failures, and committed to maintaining an organized, efficient warehouse environment. Like all roles at CFG, this position demands a self-directed professional who can move quickly and drive tasks to completion with minimal oversight.
Key ResponsibilitiesQuality Control & Maintenance
- Perform rigorous quality control inspections on all incoming rental returns to ensure all equipment is fully functional, clean, and complete before being returned to inventory status.
- Conduct bench testing on electronic components, including LED fixtures, ballasts, and power distribution equipment, using appropriate testing tools and meters.
- Inspect cables (power, data, and head cables) for continuity, insulation integrity, and connector wear.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on grip and lighting equipment (e.g., tightening hardware, replacing sacrificial components, cleaning optics).
- Conduct minor field-level repairs that do not require manufacturer intervention.
- Assist the Asset Manager in evaluating and identifying necessary replacement parts to ensure efficient equipment repairs.
- Ensure all software and firmware on programmable lighting fixtures are updated to the current company-standard versions.
Warehouse Operations
- Check in returning equipment from rentals, identifying any missing items, damages, or necessary cleaning.
- Document damages immediately and provide detailed reports to the Asset Manager or Shop Lead to initiate the repair or billing process.
- Ensure returned equipment is properly tested before being returned to "available" status in the inventory management system.
- Pull and stage equipment for upcoming orders with a high degree of accuracy.
- Collaborate with the Asset Manager to coordinate inter-location transfers of equipment in need of repair between Los Angeles and San Francisco.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace, ensuring all equipment is stored in its designated location.
- Assist in regular cycle counts and full physical inventory audits to maintain 100% data integrity within the management system.
- Ensure all equipment is properly labeled and barcoded according to company standards.
- Operate warehouse machinery (e.g., forklifts, pallet jacks) safely and according to OSHA standards.
Driving & Logistics
- Facilitate equipment transfers between San Francisco and Los Angeles by performing round-trip deliveries or meeting drivers at designated midway points.
QualificationsRequired
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a warehouse or technical role within the film and television equipment rental industry.
- Strong technical knowledge of professional lighting (Arri, Creamsource, LiteGear, etc.), grip equipment, and power distribution.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues under tight deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative, and follow through on tasks with minimal managerial oversight.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and remain on your feet for extended periods in a warehouse environment.
Preferred
- Prior experience in a dedicated Quality Control (QC) or "Bench" role.
- Valid Forklift Certification.
- Experience with G-Suite applications (preferred).
- Familiarity with RentalWorks (not required; we will provide comprehensive training).
Work Environment
This position is based out of our San Francisco location. The role is primarily hands-on within the warehouse and prep floor, involving significant physical activity including lifting, moving equipment, and operating machinery. Occasional overtime or weekend work may be required based on the production cycles of our clients.
