Assistant Health Services Administrator

POSITION SUMMARY:

Assists the nursing program of the medical unit to maintain standards of patient care. Advises medical staff, department heads and administrators in matters related to nursing services. The Assistant Health Services Administrator is a support role reporting to the Health Services Administrator (HSA) and responsible for monitoring and supporting the daily activities of the medical program. This includes a wide range of responsibilities, such as overseeing the nursing staff, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, and managing the delivery of healthcare services to patients. The Assistant HSA works in conjunction with the HSA to ensure health care delivery of the medical program.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS: 

1. Assists the HSA in the development and implementation of polices, policies & practices relevant to the nursing staff’s provision of healthcare in the institution’s medical unit
2. Sets goals, establishes priorities, manages resources, develops concepts and approaches, reviews the progress and results of projects and makes management decisions as they pertain to nursing staff 
3. Ensures that the medical unit follows applicable federal, state and local rules and regulations. Also ensures that the medical unit is in full compliance with the standards, policies and practices of the institution as well as
4. Assists Senior Management and the Health Care Administrator in establishing the direction, goals and policies of the medical unit. 
5. Supervises subordinate personnel. This may include: interviewing, hiring, orienting, training, scheduling, determining work, delegating assignment, monitoring and evaluating performance, coaching and initiating corrective or disciplinary actions
6. Recommends, advocates and/or implements new or revised policies, procedures or practices as they relate to the nursing staff’s role in the medical unit
7. Provides consultation, makes recommendations, gives appropriate advice and makes management decisions
8. Conducts or assists in regular staff meetings and provides regular input to the staff   
9. Acts as a resource to members of the nursing staff by effectively providing information and determining the most efficient way to meet the needs of management, staff and patients.         
10. Delivers trainings, presentation and instruction to staff, patients, management, institutional personnel or the general public
11. Prepares reports and participates in planning, policy development, and compliance with national standards.
12. Maintains accurate files and staffing patterns, and assists with payroll and labor control.
13. Evaluates and recommends improvements to operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
14. Maintains communication with facility administration, employees, providers, and agencies, while adhering to regulations.
15. Promotes a positive work environment, sets a good example for staff, and addresses grievances and patient correspondence.
16. Backfill nursing staff when clinically indicated
17. All other duties as assigned

POSITION REQUIRMENTS: 

Must hold a current and valid Registered Nurses’ license.

Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or matriculating  

Correctional Health Experience
