Safety and Facilities Coordinator

About The Role

The Safety and Facilities Coordinator supports the development, implementation, and daily administration of the company’s workplace safety and facilities programs across multiple locations. This position works closely with employees, Facilities, Security and Quality to promote a safe, compliant, and well-maintained work environment.

The coordinator will assist with occupational safety compliance, workplace inspections, incident investigations, corrective actions, employee training, and the development of safety policies and procedures. The position will also coordinate facilities-related activities, including vendor scheduling, maintenance requests, project tracking, documentation, and follow-up.

What You’ll Do

Safety and Occupational Health

  • Support the administration and continuous improvement of the company’s occupational safety and health program.
  • Assist with monitoring compliance with applicable OSHA requirements, company policies, and recognized safety practices.
  • Develop, update, and maintain safety policies, standard operating procedures, checklists, forms, and employee guidance.
  • Conduct routine workplace inspections and safety observations at company offices, manufacturing areas, and other work locations.
  • Document identified hazards and coordinate corrective actions with responsible departments and managers.
  • Participate in investigations of workplace injuries, illnesses, near misses, property damage, and other safety-related events.
  • Assist with OSHA recordkeeping, including the maintenance of required injury and illness records, under the direction of company management.
  • Support job hazard analyses, personal protective equipment assessments, emergency response planning, and hazard communication activities.
  • Review Safety Data Sheets and assist with maintaining chemical inventories and related documentation.
  • Coordinate or deliver employee safety training, toolbox talks, safety communications, and awareness campaigns.
  • Support emergency preparedness activities, including evacuation drills, emergency equipment inspections, and coordination with local emergency responders.
  • Compile safety data and prepare reports, presentations, and recommendations for management.
  • Promote a positive reporting culture in which employees are encouraged to raise hazards, concerns, and improvement opportunities.

Facilities Coordination

  • Receive, document, prioritize, and track facilities-related service requests across multiple company locations.
  • Maintain a centralized facilities task tracker and follow assigned actions through completion.
  • Coordinate scheduling and site access for maintenance providers, inspectors, contractors, and other vendors.
  • Obtain quotes, organize supporting documentation, and assist management with comparing vendor proposals.
  • Coordinate routine maintenance, repairs, inspections, and minor facility improvement projects.
  • Maintain records related to building systems, inspections, warranties, permits, vendor contacts, and preventive maintenance.
  • Assist with facility walkthroughs and identify maintenance, housekeeping, accessibility, safety, and operational concerns.
  • Support office moves, furniture installations, equipment placement, and workspace modifications.
  • Support implementation of cost-control, preventive-maintenance, and process-improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with other safety, facilities, emergency management, and operational support duties as assigned.

What You’ll Need

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, environmental health and safety, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
  • One to three years of related safety, facilities, or operational experience.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA workplace safety principles or the ability to quickly learn applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to research requirements and translate them into practical policies, procedures, checklists, and employee guidance.
  • Strong written communication skills and the ability to prepare clear, professional documentation.
  • Ability to investigate incidents, interview employees, review evidence, identify contributing factors, and document findings objectively.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks, deadlines, vendors, and locations.
  • Ability to work independently while recognizing when issues should be elevated to management or a subject-matter expert.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and electronic task-tracking systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees, supervisors, vendors, technical personnel, and company leadership.
  • Ability to travel periodically between company locations.
  • Ability to access office, laboratory, manufacturing, mechanical, and construction-related work areas.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow company security, access-control, and information-protection requirements.
  • U.S. citizenship is required due to the nature of the company’s work and contractual requirements.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, environmental health and safety, industrial hygiene, facilities management, or a related discipline.
  • OSHA 10-Hour or OSHA 30-Hour General Industry certification.
  • Experience in a manufacturing, laboratory, aerospace, engineering, defense, or government-contracting environment.
  • Familiarity with OSHA injury and illness recordkeeping requirements.
  • Experience performing workplace inspections, incident investigations, job hazard analyses, or root-cause analyses.
  • Familiarity with hazard communication, personal protective equipment, lockout/tagout, emergency action planning, machine safety, ergonomics, electrical safety, or contractor safety.
  • Experience coordinating vendors, maintenance activities, work orders, or small facilities projects.
  • Familiarity with task-management or computerized maintenance-management systems.
  • First Aid, CPR, or AED certification.
  • Associate Safety Professional, Graduate Safety Practitioner, Certified Safety and Health Official, or similar entry-level safety credential.

Work Environment

Work is performed in a combination of office, manufacturing, and facility environments. The employee may occasionally be exposed to noise, moving equipment, chemicals, construction activities, elevated temperatures, outdoor conditions, or other workplace hazards. Appropriate training and personal protective equipment will be provided when required.

The position will require walking facilities, climbing stairs, entering mechanical or production areas, bending, inspecting equipment, and occasionally lifting or moving light materials.

Location: This role is based in the Huntsville, AL area, and is 100% onsite.
