CFD Research Corporation is adding a talented Computational Fluid Dynamics Modeling & Simulation (MnS) Engineer to our current team. This individual will support a variety of company programs related to high speed ground test facilities. Potential areas of analysis include enthalpy generators, nozzles, test sections, ejectors and exhaust systems. These capabilities will significantly advance the testing technologies available for high-speed weapon systems.
The candidate will join a team conducting CFD analysis using Siemens Simcenter STAR-CCM . These simulations expedite design by providing relevant and timely data, at multiple fidelities, to engineering managers. Simulations must be automated as much as possible and will be ran on HPC systems with batch schedulers. Results must be rapidly post-processed and the candidate will be expected to present results to the team and customer. The need to iterate quickly requires the candidate to be comfortable scripting on remote machines and using Python for offline post processing.
In addition to conducting their own CFD analysis, the candidate will assist in the decomposition of program objectives into discrete simulation tasks and the review of simulation results. The candidate will join the rest of the team in weekly technical reviews of all on-going CFD simulations to help with debugging and troubleshooting.
Much of the team's work is in support of hardware being built and/or tested at the company's Engineering and Test Center in Hollywood, AL. As such, members of the team, including the candidate, are expected to spend 1 day a month working on-site at the Hollywood facility. This travel facilitates strong relationships and improved coordination across the teams.

Basic Qualifications
- US Citizenship and eligibility to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance
- Masters Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
- 8 years' engineering experience (at least 6 of which are in M&S)
- Experience with STAR-CCM
- Experience modeling chemically reacting flows
- Strong foundation in compressible flows, specifically internal flows
- Background in thermofluids and heat transfer
- Experience with batch scripting on cluster computers
- Above average skill writing extensible Python scripts to automatically parse and plot simulation results
- Location: This role is based in the Huntsville, AL area, and is 100% onsite. There will be occasional travel to our Testing facility in Hollywood, AL.
- An active secret security clearance
- Masters or PhD in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
- Experience modeling fluid-structure interaction (FSI) and/or fluid-thermal-structure interaction (FTSI)
- Familiarity with other CFD tools to include: CREATE Kestrel, CREATE Helios, Fun3D, Loci-Chem
- Familiarly with Git and the Java programming-language
