What are the responsibilities and job description for the Field Service Diesel Technician position at CERTIFIED FLEET SERVICES?
Field Service Diesel Technician — Tampa, FL
Flat Rate $32–$42/hr Equivalent Company Service Truck Real Earning Upside
Run Your Own Truck. Solve Real Problems. Get Paid for Production, Not Punching a Clock.
Some techs are built for the bay. You’re not. You want the variety, the independence, and the satisfaction of getting a stranded driver back on the road — without a shop manager breathing down your neck every 20 minutes.
That’s the job.
Certified Fleet Services is one of Florida’s fastest-growing commercial diesel operations, with shops in Tampa, Sarasota, and Fort Myers. We’re putting more service trucks on the road, and we need field techs who can own their truck, own their schedule, and own the outcome on every call.
What You’ll Do
- Respond to roadside and on-site breakdown calls — get trucks rolling fast
- Run fleet PMs and repairs at customer yards across the Tampa Bay region
- Diagnose and repair diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, electrical, and aftertreatment systems
- Use advanced diagnostic tools with master tech and shop support a phone call away
- Communicate directly with dispatch and customers — set expectations, deliver results
- Represent CFS in the field — you are the brand on every job site
How You Get Paid
We pay flat rate because we believe producers should be paid for production, not for sitting around. Top field techs at CFS consistently out-earn hourly competitors — because when you’re efficient, you keep the upside.
- Flat Rate Equivalent: $32–$42/hr based on experience and certifications
- Truck & Tools: Late-model service truck, fuel card, tablet, diagnostic equipment — fully outfitted, no out-of-pocket
- Steady Pipeline: We don’t put trucks on the road we can’t keep busy. Our dispatch keeps you producing.
- Backup: Real shop team behind you when a job goes sideways
- Benefits: Health, dental, vision, 401(k), PTO, paid holidays
- Growth: Training, certifications, and a clear path to senior field tech or field supervisor
Who We’re Looking For
- 3 years diesel repair experience (heavy-duty / medium-duty / fleet)
- Strong diagnostic chops — you can troubleshoot without a shop manual in your face
- Efficient and self-managed — flat rate rewards techs who move with purpose
- Customer-facing confidence — you can talk to a fleet manager and a driver and earn trust with both
- Self-directed and accountable — we trust you with an $80K truck and a customer relationship; you act like it
- Valid driver’s license, clean record, drug-free
- Aligned with how we operate: Inspirational, Accountable, Excellent, Results-Oriented, Disciplined, Aligned
Why CFS
We’re operators, not a corporate fleet brand. The owner came up turning wrenches for 23 years before building this company, and we run it like a tech-first shop. That means real tools, real support, real pay, and zero tolerance for the BS that pushes good techs out of the trade.
Flat rate isn’t for everyone. It’s for techs who know they’re fast, accurate, and tired of carrying slower coworkers on an hourly clock. If that’s you, this is your shop.
The Tampa Bay market is one of the busiest commercial diesel corridors in Florida. We’ve got the customer base, the call volume, and the dispatch system to keep you producing.
