Summary: The Grinder Maintenance Manager will be responsible for the maintenance of the grinders and the associated support equipment. This position reports directly to the Grinder Operations Manager.
Activities will vary depending on the season, but revolve around preparing for storm season and coordinating with the Grinder Operations Manager to ensure optimum grinding operations in sometimes difficult or remote situations, responding quickly to equipment in need of repair or service, managing all aspects of the field grinding equipment maintenance including training during off season, working with HR to seek and retain top talent, and managing permanent site-based grinding equipment maintenance outside of storm season.

The employee is frequently required to use hands to manipulate, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Duties
- Supervise designated grinder operators and mechanics while they support grinding operations maintenance to ensure equipment remains in good condition
- Pre- and Post-operations/off-season:
- Personally work with shops to better prepare for breakdowns
- Develop a parts list to have readily on hand for storm season, based on common issues and wear & tear
- Ensure the Vermeer Trailer/Parts Trailers/Parts Containers are properly stocked with needed parts
- Regularly conduct inspections of equipment
- Coordinate with shops to assist the repair of grinders and ensure they are prepared for storm season and other potential grinding work
- Post-operations, return to permanent mulch grinding yard (MN), where this position will manage both the grinder operations and maintenance for the equipment at that location
- Conduct training for current and prospective grinder operators utilizing our permanent locations in TGU and MN Mulch. Training should include but is not limited to: PMCS, common issues with the grinders, most efficient ways to operate grinders and related equipment, and trouble-shooting damage
- Operations:
- Receive all reports of equipment breakdowns
- Review the damage and run initial diagnostics
- Coordinate with the grinder mechanic assigned to the job and the shop manager to identify the priority of repairs and parts needed
- Ensure all scheduled maintenance on equipment is performed in a timely manner and coordinate with the maintenance admin
- Locate and arrange fuel delivery for equipment for grinding sites
- On a weekly basis, collect daily equipment inspections from the operators
- Ensure all grinders and equipment have fire extinguishers/water cannon
- Inspect equipment prior to demobilization
- Coordinate with Grinder Operations Manager to demobilize equipment to required locations and report damages and needed repairs
- Gather equipment hours
- When repairs are required, ensure work orders are opened and then close them when repairs are complete and verified
- Overseeing standard daily maintenance of equipment, including but not limited to: Greasing equipment, scheduling and conducting oil changes
- Once work on a site is complete, ensure proper equipment is supplied and site is restored to acceptable condition
- Other duties as assigned
- 3 plus years' experience in a maintenance manager or similar role in field/disaster recovery and/or construction industry grinding
- 5 plus years’ experience maintaining and repairing grinding equipment and operations in a field/disaster recovery and/or construction industry setting
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, repair guides, and procedure manuals
- Ability to monitor multiple grinder operations and coordinate mechanics between work sites to perform grinder/equipment troubleshooting and repair in a timely manner
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of grinders, including all equipment necessary for various jobs, and the expertise necessary to coordinate repairs efficiently
- Travel flexibility
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Working knowledge of MS Office including, Excel and Word
- Prior experience at the Manager level on Disaster Recovery projects with varied grinding operations
- Contributes to building a positive team spirit and exemplifying efficient teamwork
- Commits to long hours of work when necessary to reach goals
