Overview:
We are seeking a passionate and innovative Adult Transition Special Education Teacher to support young adults ages 18–26 with disabilities as they transition from school to meaningful adult lives. This role focuses on building independence, competitive integrated employment, community participation, vocational skills, and self-determination. The ideal candidate is a creative educator, collaborator, and advocate committed to helping every learner develop the skills, relationships, and supports needed for adulthood.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate
- Special Education Endorsement in one or more areas
- Demonstrated knowledge of transition planning requirements unde IDEA, community-based instruction, employment and independent living skill development
- Experience working with students with disabilities across a wide range of post-secondary needs
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
Preferred:
- Experience with transition programming for students ages 18-26
- Experience coordinating community-based learning or work experiences
- Knowledge of adult service systems (MRS, CHN, supported employment providers)
- Experience working in inclusive or community-based programs
