Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to support our technical team during evening hours. This position assists in the development and testing of ceramic glazes, inorganic pigments, enamels, and other specialty color solutions used in sanitaryware, tile, porcelain, dinnerware, construction materials, and artistic applications. No prior ceramic experience is required—we provide comprehensive training for motivated individuals with a strong work ethic and attention to detail.
This is a part-time evening/night shift position (twice a week: 8 pm to 8 am) that reports directly to the Director of Product Development and works closely with members of the Research & Development team. The position offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in industrial product development and may lead to a full-time daytime position based on performance and business needs.
Essential Duties
- Assist with the development and evaluation of ceramic glazes, frits, pigments, and specialty color formulations
- Prepare laboratory batches using precise weighing and mixing techniques
- Operate laboratory equipment including balances, mixers, mills, and kilns
- Monitor kiln firings during overnight operation and accurately record temperatures, observations, and production data
- Prepare fired samples for evaluation and testing
- Document experimental procedures and results using laboratory notebooks and electronic records
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment
- Assist researchers with routine experiments and product development projects
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Comfortable performing repetitive tasks requiring precision
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Basic math skills including algebra and unit conversions
- Basic computer proficiency, including familiarity with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
- Ability to stand for extended periods and climb stairs
- Strong organizational skills
- Dependable attendance
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Willingness to learn new laboratory techniques
Preferred Requirements
- Coursework or experience in chemistry, materials science, ceramics, engineering, or a related technical field
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Ceramic Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical discipline
- Previous laboratory experience (academic or industrial)
- Familiarity with laboratory safety practices
- Interest in ceramics, pigments, coatings, glass, or materials development
- Understanding of color measurement or color theory is a plus
Pay: $18.00 - $21.00 per hour
