Quality Technician / Quality Inspector (Manufacturing)

Job Summary
The Quality Technician supports the plant’s quality system by inspecting product and process compliance, identifying defects and root causes, and partnering with production teams to drive corrective actions. This role ensures products meet specifications, customer requirements, and safety/quality standards in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform in-process and final product inspections (e.g., cabinetry/wood components, assemblies, hardware, finish/paint) using established checklists, specs, and visual standards.
  • Conduct incoming material inspections as required (materials, components, packaging).
  • Document inspection results in quality logs/systems; create and maintain nonconformance reports (NCRs) and defect data.
  • Identify trends in defects and support problem-solving/root cause analysis (5 Whys, fishbone, Pareto).
  • Assist with containment actions (hold/release, quarantine, rework instructions) to prevent defective product from shipping.
  • Verify corrective actions are implemented and effective; follow up to confirm sustained improvement.
  • Support process audits (layered audits, workstation audits) and help maintain standard work and quality checkpoints.
  • Partner with production, maintenance, and engineering to improve first-pass yield, reduce scrap/rework, and strengthen controls.
  • Calibrate/verify measuring tools (as assigned) and ensure gauges are in acceptable condition.
  • Support customer complaint investigations and create documentation as needed.
  • Train/coach associates on quality standards, defect recognition, and proper handling practices.
  • Follow all plant safety rules, 5S, and environmental policies.

Key Quality Skills (Manufacturing)

  • Strong visual inspection ability (cosmetics, finish defects, seams, alignment, damage)
  • Understanding of specs/tolerances, drawings, and quality standards
  • Experience with inspection tools (tape measure, calipers, gauges; basic measurement math)
  • Data entry, reporting, and basic Excel or quality systems use

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 1 year experience in manufacturing quality, inspection, or production with strong quality responsibilities (or equivalent experience)
  • Ability to read and follow work instructions, checklists, and specifications
  • Basic computer skills (data entry, email)

Preferred

  • Experience in wood products/cabinet manufacturing, assembly, finishing, or similar
  • Familiarity with Lean/Six Sigma concepts, 5S, or continuous improvement
  • Experience with ISO-style quality systems, audits, and corrective actions

Physical & Work Environment

  • Standing/walking for extended periods; repetitive motion
  • Must be able to lift up to 35–50 lbs (as required at the site)
  • Exposure to typical manufacturing conditions: dust, noise, moving equipment, varying temperatures
  • PPE required (safety glasses, hearing protection, etc.)

Schedule

  • Full-time; shift and overtime as required (Monday - Thursday | 6:00 am - 4:30 pm)

Pay: From $16.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 40.0 per week
