What are the responsibilities and job description for the Process Controls Engineer position at CEO Inc.?
Process Controls Engineer
Location: Rock Hill, SC
Must be either a US Citizen or have a fully executed Green Card
Travel: Less than 10%
About the Opportunity
If you enjoy working close to the process, where your decisions directly impact uptime, quality, and production stability, this role will likely feel like home.
We’re looking for a Controls Engineer to support a high-volume industrial manufacturing facility with a strong emphasis on process control systems, DCS platforms, and plant-floor problem solving.
This is a hands-on, plant-facing engineering role where you’ll partner closely with operations and maintenance teams to troubleshoot issues, improve control strategies, and keep production running at a high level of performance.
The facility has benefited from significant investment and now serves as a key controls hub within the organization, offering both stability and long-term technical growth. You’ll be joining a collaborative Controls Engineering team with a strong mix of experienced and developing engineers.
This opportunity also exists due to growth and planned succession, creating meaningful visibility and long-term career potential within the group.
What You’ll Be Doing
In this role, you’ll be directly involved in the systems that keep production running every day. You will:
- Design, develop, and improve process control strategies that enhance uptime, quality, and efficiency
- Work hands-on with DCS platforms (ABB 800xA and/or Honeywell TDC 3000) as a core part of your day-to-day work
- Support and optimize PLC and HMI systems in a live production environment
- Troubleshoot control system and process issues alongside maintenance and operations teams
- Develop and maintain key technical documentation such as control schematics, loop sheets, narratives, backups, and troubleshooting guides
- Support startup, commissioning, and implementation of new automation and process improvements
- Participate in cross-functional project work with maintenance, operations, and outside contractors
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts focused on system reliability and process stability
- Participate in a 4-week rotating on-call schedule, providing support for production-critical issues when needed
What You’ll Bring
We’re looking for engineers who are comfortable in a plant environment and have real, hands-on experience with process control systems.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (or related field)
- 5 years of controls or automation engineering experience (strong candidates with 4 years will be considered)
- At least 2 years of experience in a process manufacturing environment
- Strong hands-on experience with DCS systems such as ABB 800xA and/or Honeywell TDC 3000 (required)
- PLC experience with Allen Bradley, Siemens, or GE (supporting experience is fine—this is not a PLC-only role)
- Experience supporting full lifecycle automation projects from design through startup
Technical Environment
You’ll be working with a modern industrial controls stack, including:
- OSIsoft PI
- GE Plant Applications
- SQL Server
- VMware environments
- Windows-based systems
- Industrial networking and communication protocols (OPC, Modbus RTU, TCP/IP, Serial)
- Instrumentation and control loop systems
What the Work Environment is Like
This is a hands-on, plant-floor engineering role, not a desk-based position.
You’ll be working in an active industrial manufacturing environment with exposure to production equipment, noise, humidity, and varying plant conditions. Comfort working directly in the facility and engaging with equipment is essential to success.
Why This Opportunity
- Strong, stable manufacturing operation with continued investment in the facility
- A collaborative controls team with deep technical experience and support
- Clear long-term growth potential due to succession planning and team expansion
- Opportunity to work deeply with DCS systems in a true process environment
- Exposure to complex, real-time production systems where your impact is immediate
Compensation & Benefits
We offer a competitive compensation package with annual bonus, full benefits, and long-term career growth within a stable manufacturing organization.
Relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates, including temporary housing support where applicable. Interview travel accommodation will also be provided for non-local candidates.
