Job Description

Overview

The irrigation specialist, under the supervision of the golf course superintendent or assistant golf course superintendent, is responsible for the programming, operation and maintenance of the golf course irrigation system(s). The irrigation specialist is required to report any irregularities in course turf quality to the superintendent or assistant superintendent. 

Functions

• Waters greens, tees and fairways.
• Operates irrigation heads in dry areas needing additional water.
• Repairs the irrigation system, pipes and irrigation heads as needed.
• Completes requests for irrigation and course parts and supplies.
• Grades and prepares soil base; lays sod; and seeds greens, tees and fairways.
• Operates dump trucks and other light equipment in hauling materials and removing debris.
• Occasionally supervises a small labor force for special projects, and performs other duties as directed by supervisor.

Employment standards 

• Working knowledge of basic electricity and hydraulics related to an irrigation system, including automatic valves and controllers, and working knowledge of various types of pumps and pumping systems.
• Understanding of agronomy, turfgrass science and the rules of golf.
• Knowledge of tools, methods and materials used in grounds and landscape area maintenance work.
• Ability to operate light motorized equipment.
• Ability to follow oral and written directions.
• Possession of a valid driver's license.

Resumen

El especialista en riego, bajo la supervisión del superintendente del campo de golf o del superintendente asistente, es responsable de la programación, operación y mantenimiento del/de los sistema(s) de riego del campo de golf. El especialista en riego debe informar cualquier irregularidad en la calidad del césped del campo al superintendente o al superintendente asistente.

Funciones

• Riega greens, tees y fairways.

• Opera los aspersores en áreas secas que requieren agua adicional.

• Repara el sistema de riego, tuberías y aspersores según sea necesario.

• Completa solicitudes de riego y de piezas y suministros para el campo.

• Nivela y prepara la base del suelo; coloca césped en rollo; y siembra greens, tees y fairways.

• Opera camiones de volteo y otros equipos livianos para el transporte de materiales y la remoción de desechos.

• Ocasionalmente supervisa a un pequeño grupo de trabajadores para proyectos especiales y realiza otras tareas según lo indique el supervisor.

Requisitos de empleo

• Conocimiento práctico de electricidad básica e hidráulica relacionadas con sistemas de riego, incluyendo válvulas automáticas y controladores, así como conocimiento práctico de distintos tipos de bombas y sistemas de bombeo.

• Comprensión de la agronomía, la ciencia del césped y las reglas del golf.

• Conocimiento de herramientas, métodos y materiales utilizados en trabajos de mantenimiento de áreas verdes y paisajismo.

• Capacidad para operar equipos motorizados livianos.

• Capacidad para seguir instrucciones orales y escritas.

• Poseer una licencia de conducir válida.
