About the Role
Century Conveyor Systems is looking for a hands-on Field Service Technician with strong conveyor and material handling experience to support our customers’ facilities across the tri-state area and, when needed, throughout the continental United States.
This position will be in the field installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining conveyor systems and related automation equipment at distribution centers, warehouses, and manufacturing plants.
Key Responsibilities
- Install and assist in commissioning conveyor systems, sortation equipment, and related material handling components.
- Support startup activities including testing, adjustments, and system fine-tuning.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and controls-related issues on conveyor systems.
- Perform corrective repairs on motors, gearboxes, belts, rollers, sensors, photo-eyes, VFDs, etc.
- Work with engineering/support teams to resolve complex issues and minimize downtime for customers.
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on conveyor lines and associated equipment.
- Inspect equipment for wear, misalignment, and safety risks; recommend corrective actions.
- Document all service and maintenance activities accurately.
- Interface directly with customers, providing professional on-site support and clear communication.
- Represent Century Conveyor Systems’ values and standards while on-site.
- Complete service reports, checklists, and timesheets in a timely and accurate manner.
- Provide feedback to internal teams on recurring issues, improvement opportunities, and field conditions.
- Travel regularly within the tri-state area (NJ, NY, PA) for daily and multi-day assignments. Travel within the continental United States as needed for project installations or service calls.
- Occasional overnight and weekend work may be required based on customer needs.
Qualifications
Required:
- A minimum of 3 years working with conveyor systems or material handling equipment
- Strong mechanical aptitude (alignment, bearings, chains, belts, rollers, gearboxes).
- Basic to intermediate electrical skills:
- Reading and understanding wiring diagrams.
- Experience with 24VDC control circuits, sensors, photo-eyes, VFDs.
- Ability to use standard hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Willingness and ability to travel frequently within the tri-state area and periodically across the U.S.
- Strong communication skills and professional customer-facing demeanor.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work with and coordinate with team members.
Preferred but not required:
- Experience with conveyor controls and PLC-based systems (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.) – basic troubleshooting or familiarity is a plus.
- Prior experience with warehouse automation (sorters, merges, diverts, GTP, etc.).
- Previous field service, industrial maintenance, or commissioning experience.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb for extended periods.
- Comfortable working at heights (on mezzanines, lifts, etc.) with proper fall protection.
- Ability to lift and carry tools/parts typically up to 50 lbs.
- Work in warehouse and industrial environments (noise, temperature variations, dust).
