SUMMARY
Responsible for the surveying a body of water and conducting rescues to help weak or injured swimmers get to safety. Duties include speaking with swimmers to enforce swimming rules, keeping track of each swimmer in the water and administrating first aid to injured swimmers.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Listen and respond to guest inquiries using a positive, clear speaking voice.
- Answer questions and offer assistance to provide guest satisfaction.
- Relay accurate information to guests regarding hours of operation, Hotel services, directions to local attractions or function rooms, shuttle service, etc.
- Analytical skills needed to establish pulse and/or breathing. Be able to determine when and if CPR or mouth to mouth resuscitation should be utilized.
- Rescue and/or give first aid or CPR to accident victims, or help fellow lifeguard provide care.
- Enforce all facility rules and regulations.
- Maintain the beach area, including trash and litter removal.
- Prevent injuries by minimizing or eliminating hazardous situations or behaviors.
- Recognize and respond quickly and effectively to all emergency situations.
- Ability to determine if injuries are life threatening or require administration of first aid.
- Knowledge and skills needed to properly operate a backboard, neck brace, life ring, telescoping hook, first aid kit, etc. in emergency situations.
- Ability to withstand exposure to summer sun and temperatures, as well as noise, dust, fumes, etc. associated with both pool and beach environments.
- Ability to remain alert throughout the duration of the shift and remain calm during emergency situations.
- Ability to effectively deal with customer complaints and concerns in a friendly and positive manner. This involves listening to the nature of the concern, demonstrating empathy with the customer and providing positive and proactive solutions.
- Directing swimmers out of water in dangerous conditions.
- Explaining and enforcing rules, regulations, and policies to ensure the safety of guests.
- Ensure appropriate wristband distribution and monitor usage throughout stay.
- All other duties as assigned.
REPORTING LINE
You will report directly to the Hotel Operations Supervisor and then the Hotel Operations Manager.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Calm under pressure to administer aid to those in distress.
- Must have excellent communication skills, be polite, and present a neat appearance at all times.
- The ability to work with others as a team in an efficient manner.
- The ability to apply common sense reasoning to variety of situations
- Proven experience providing high level of guest service
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- The ability to read, write, comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos in English
- The availability to work all shifts.
- The ability to work in a fast–paced environment and stressful situations.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must be able to pass a background investigation and obtain and maintain all work cards as required by the company.
- The ability to verify the right to work in the United States.
EDUCATIONAL AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or equivalent preferred. Current Lifeguard Training, CPR, and First Aid certifications. Two or more years of lifeguard experience preferred. Successful completion of a pre-employment in-water practical skills test and written test.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be physically fit and an excellent swimmer. Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the property for prolonged periods of time. Ability to push, pull, bend, reach, squat, kneel, crawl, twist, sit, climb, balance, carry and lift to 50 lbs and push carts with 100 lbs. Constant use of hearing, speech, vision (including distinguishing between shades of color), radios, and tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.

Will be exposed to working in a noisy environment and seasonal elements.
