Temp Bilingual Teacher Assistant (CentroNia Upshur)

Position Details:

• Job location: CentroNía Upshur (1288 Upshur St NW, Washington, DC 20011)
• Schedule: 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM
• Wage according to DC Pay Equity Fund
• A maximum of 40 hours a week. Temporary (6 months).
• CentroNía participates in EVerify to confirm work authorization.

The Teacher Assistant will work in the classroom under the direction of the Lead Teacher to reinforce lessons.

Responsibilities:

• Knowledge of state and local rules and regulations governing childcare, NAEYC accreditation standards, and District of Columbia Standards.
• Knowledge of ECE standards in health, safety, and nutrition.
• Knowledge of state regulations for child abuse and neglect reporting.
• Knowledge of child development, including typical and atypical language, cognitive, motor, social, and selfhelp skills.
• Ability to provide services to all children and families with respect and dignity.
• Advocate for parents in accessing needed resources and support services.
• Assist in ensuring parent involvement through communication, meetings, newsletters, and conferences.
• Assist in maintaining classroom records, including attendance and volunteer time sheets.
• Collaborate with staff in developing activity plans and program implementation.
• Comply with documentation and recordkeeping responsibilities.
• Ensure records on children and families are current, complete, and confidential.
• Ensure required reports are completed accurately and timely.
• Involve parents in the classroom, recognizing them as the principal influence on their child's education.
• Assist in lesson planning, creating, and implementing a daily program with the Lead Teacher.
• Check shared areas (bathroom, playgrounds, van) for health and safety hazards.
• Ensure that all children are signed in and out of the center upon drop off and pick up in accordance with CentroNia standards.
• Submit timely submission of leave requests for approval.
• Support the program by completing other duties as assigned by the Coordinator/Director or Lead Teacher.

Qualifications:

• 23 years of experience in an Early Childhood Education setting.
• CDA Certification for Infants and Toddlers, or related field, prior to employment (and maintained during employment) or CDA plus credits in Associates in Education, Child Development, or related field.
• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Current First Aid certificate within 30 days of employment (and maintained during employment).
• English fluency is required.
• Flexibility in schedules, sharing tasks, and changes in routines.
• Bilingual (EnglishSpanish / SpanishEnglish) highly preferred, but not required.
