Sr. HSE Specialist / HSE Manager (Individual Contributor)
Location: Houston, TX 77092
Travel: Approximately 25% (3–5 nights/month regional travel)
About the Role
We are seeking a hands-on HSE Manager to lead and centralize safety, environmental, and training functions across multiple manufacturing sites. This is a high-impact individual contributor role with the authority to stop work when safety or environmental risks are identified.
The ideal candidate is practical, organized, and confident in the field — someone who can build structure where needed, leverage technology to improve training systems, and communicate expectations clearly and firmly.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and centralize HSE programs across three regional manufacturing facilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain OSHA-compliant safety programs and documentation
- Ensure compliance with applicable environmental regulations, permits, and reporting requirements
- Oversee environmental monitoring activities including soil testing, stormwater/runoff controls, and waste handling practices
- Coordinate required environmental inspections, sampling, and third-party testing as needed
- Build and manage a structured safety training calendar using modern tools and systems
- Conduct and coordinate safety and environmental trainings for plant personnel
- Investigate incidents, injuries, near-miss events, and environmental releases; drive corrective actions
- Perform routine site audits and ensure consistent HSE standards across locations
- Exercise stop-work authority when unsafe or non-compliant conditions are identified
- Create and continuously improve safety and environmental materials, SOPs, and training content
- Partner with operations leadership to strengthen safety and environmental accountability
- Track and maintain all required OSHA and environmental records, logs, and compliance items
What We’re Looking For
Required:
- 5 years of progressive HSE/safety experience in manufacturing, steel, industrial, or similar environment
- Working knowledge of OSHA requirements and core environmental compliance obligations
- Experience coordinating safety training and incident investigations
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple sites and priorities
- Comfortable being firm, direct, and vocal regarding safety expectations
- Proficiency with Excel and safety or training management software
- Willingness to travel regionally
Preferred:
- CSP, CHST, or similar safety certification
- Experience with environmental permitting, stormwater compliance, or waste management
- Engineering or technical background
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
- Experience in steel, pipe, or heavy manufacturing environments
