Director of ESA Schools

Centric Learning
Ann Arbor, MI Full Time
POSTED ON 3/6/2026 CLOSED ON 5/4/2026

What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of ESA Schools position at Centric Learning?

About the Opportunity

Centric Learning is expanding aggressively into the Education Savings Account (ESA) and school choice markets across the United States. We're looking for a hungry, entrepreneurial leader to build and scale our ESA school programs from the ground up. This isn't a typical "head of school" role - you'll be part business developer, part online school operator, and 100% responsible for growth.

Compensation Structure:

  • Base salary: $75,000
  • $10,000 annual bonus for each 100 new full-time sustained student enrollments

You'll own the entire ESA vertical - from getting vendor approvals in new states to ensuring academic quality and student outcomes. If you're someone who gets energized by building something from scratch and seeing direct results from your work, this is your role.

Market Expansion & Growth (50%)

  • Secure vendor approvals in target ESA states (Arizona, Florida, West Virginia, Utah, Arkansas, Ohio, etc.)
  • Build relationships with ESA administrators, scholarship organizations, and state education agencies
  • Develop state-specific enrollment strategies and marketing approaches
  • Attend conferences and represent Centric Learning in school choice communities
  • Drive enrollment growth through partnerships, referrals, and direct outreach
  • Navigate state-by-state regulatory requirements and compliance landscapes

School Operations & Quality (50%)

  • Manage instructional staff and teachers serving ESA students
  • Ensure high-quality, competency-based learning experiences aligned with Centric's PBL model
  • Oversee student academic progress and outcomes
  • Maintain state compliance reporting and documentation
  • Manage accreditation requirements and state academic reporting
  • Handle day-to-day operational issues and parent communication
  • Build systems and processes that scale as enrollment grows

Required:

  • 3 years in education (teaching, school leadership, or edtech)
  • Proven track record of growth or business development (you've sold something, built something, or grown something)
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and building from scratch
  • Strong relationship-building skills - can open doors and close deals
  • Detail-oriented enough to handle compliance and state reporting
  • Willing to hustle - this role requires initiative and persistence
  • Understanding of competency-based and project-based learning approaches

Bonus Points:

  • Experience with charter schools, private schools, or ESA/voucher programs
  • Existing relationships in school choice ecosystem
  • Knowledge of state education regulations and vendor approval processes
  • Background in sales, BD, or customer success transitioning to education

Not Required:

  • Traditional school administrator certification (though teaching credentials help)
  • Deep technical expertise (we have curriculum and platform support)

Year 1:

  • Vendor approval in 3-5 target states
  • 100 students enrolled
  • Strong student retention and academic outcomes
  • Operational systems established and documented
  • Pipeline built for Year 2 growth

Year 2:

  • 300 students across multiple states
  • Proven enrollment playbook that works across markets
  • Team beginning to scale under your leadership
  • Known presence in ESA/school choice community

  • Growth opportunity: As ESA programs scale, so does your role and compensation
  • Mission-driven: We're expanding access to personalized learning for families who want alternatives
  • Support: You'll have curriculum, platform, and operational support - not building alone
