What are the responsibilities and job description for the Specialty Court Probation Officer (PO2) position at Centre County, Pennsylvania?
- Conducts pre-sentence investigations of offenders; interviewing offenders, victims, police, family, employer, associates, and other individuals with knowledge of the offender.
- Prepares reports on the outcome of investigations, analyzing information gathered and recommending appropriate rehabilitative/corrective action to the court.
- Provides counseling and other supportive services to help specialty court participants in their personal, social, and economic adjustments to the community.
- Maintains contact and schedules meetings with family, friends, employers, clergy, and other persons concerned with aiding specialty court participants.
- Conducts investigations to monitor specialty court participant activities and works to prevent or remove harmful activities and influences.
- Conducts random drug/alcohol testing/screenings, including on weekends, and reports results to the Court, supervisors, and specialty court team.
- Enforces court-orders and makes or assists in arrests when necessary.
- Collects fees, fines, costs and restitutions from offenders.
- Appears and testifies as an expert witness at court hearings.
- Interacts with other County departments/offices, outside agencies, physicians, service providers, and insurances in regard to supervision of specialty court participants.
- Assists in transporting of specialty court participants to appropriate placements.
- Attends meetings, seminars, and in-service trainings as required.
- Acts as a community resource contact as needed.
- Conducts evaluations regarding CRN/UIs as requested.
- Assists with collection, entry, and maintenance of all client data in the AOPC Pennsylvania Adult and Juvenile Court Information System (PAJCIS).
- Performs other job-related duties as required.
Qualifications
Required Education: Bachelors degree in social or behavioral sciences, criminal justice, law enforcement or related field. Computer skills necessary. Must successfully pass firearms and in-service training. Required Experience: Two (2) years working experience in probation/parole or law enforcement with knowledge of the justice and court system. Other Requirements: Must possess a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license and a willingness to travel as needed.
