JOB TITLE SPEECH/LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY ASSISTANT JOB DESCRIPTION Under general supervision, in a classroom setting or special learning center, a speech/language pathology assistant performs a variety of tasks as prescribed, directed, and supervised by an ASHA-Certified speech/language pathologist, such as, but not limited to activities designed to develop pre-language and language skills, oral-motor control for speech production, vocalization, and use of assistive technology devices for communication. POSITION IN ORGANIZATION Reports to: Executive Director, Student Services, or his/her Designee SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES -Provide assistance to speech/language pathologist. -Conduct speech-language screenings. -Follow documented therapy plans or protocols. -Document student progress. -Prepare therapy materials and/or equipment for use in classroom and therapy activities. -Adapt or modify instructional materials and/or equipment as determined by student needs and abilities for teacher use in the classroom. -Schedule activities, prepare charts, records, graphs, or otherwise display student performance data. -Perform checks and maintenance on augmentative communication devices and equipment. -Participate in research projects, in-service training, and public relations programs. -Deal effectively with attitudes and behaviors of students. -Respond to emergency situations involving students and student behavior on a routine basis. -Must demonstrate attendance sufficient to complete the duties of the position as required. -May be required to perform specific tasks as related to the Individualized Education Plan (I.E.P.). -Maintain a facilitating environment for assigned tasks. -Perform related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES Knowledge of: -Correct English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation. -Effective record keeping practices and procedures. -Human anatomy and physiology. -Normal speech, language, and hearing development. -Language disorders and rehabilitation. -Articulation disorders and rehabilitation. -Acquired disorders and rehabilitation. -Clinical methods and procedures. -Hearing disorders and aural rehabilitation. Ability to: -Perform simple math to compile reports, and maintain records and status reports. -Recall facts, figures, names, faces, and information. -Complete tasks in a timely manner. -Make independent decisions to respond to student requests and needs, and to select appropriate techniques to be used with students. -Effectively and tactfully communicate in both oral and written forms. -Interface effectively with supervisor. -Manage and use time effectively. -Demonstrate appropriate and professional conduct. -Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. -Communicate screening results and all supplemental information to supervisor. -Manage behavior and treatment program. -Provide effective implementation of treatment objectives. -Operate standard office equipment including computer, copier, fax machine, etc. -Establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties. -Lift, carry, push or pull equipment/supplies/children up to 50 pounds. -Stoop, bend, reach and climb. -Read fine print and perceive conditions relating to the safety of self and others. -Converse on telephone and in person, and to perceive conditions relating to safety of others and self. -Communicate directly with others, both in person and over the telephone. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Training and Experience Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school and one year of full-time paid or two years volunteer experience working with Special Education Students, or two (2) years of college including courses in child development and education of the Special Education student. Must be physically fit to lead and participate in a variety of vigorous activities. Licenses and Other Requirements Registration as a Speech/Language Pathology Assistant with the State of California Speech/Language Pathology and Audiology Board. Must possess a California Drivers License and must submit to a Department of Motor Vehicle check as required.

Salary : $30 - $37
