Chef

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Chef is responsible for ensuring that children consume healthful meals that include trying new foods, appropriate portions, minimal waste, and supporting the educational curriculum.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Follow and implement the program guidelines as prescribed by Head Start, Day Care Licensing, WV Board of Education, Health Department, the Agency and any other regulating agencies
• Use whole foods in preparing meals
• Prepare meals according to all guidelines, recipes and necessary child accommodations
• Prepare grocery lists in coordination with provided menus
• Drive to the grocery store and other program-related destinations
• Purchase groceries, load and unload, manage bulk orders
• Maintain inventory
• Complete safety checklists
• Maintain tracking systems, such as food production records, etc.
• Encourage positive parent involvement
• Perform housekeeping duties to achieve the highest standards of classroom, kitchen and facility cleanliness; maintain general grounds
• Meet program in-kind goals by recruiting and managing program volunteers and soliciting other program-related donations
• Ensure active supervision by maintaining child/staff ratio at all times; provide direct classroom coverage

SECONDARY DUTIES

• Fully participate in gross motor activities to increase physical health
• Fully participate in general health activities, including family meal participation and nutrition
• Participate in behavioral health education and special education plan implementation
• Other duties and functions as requested.

Education

• High School Diploma or GED
• Certifications as required by Head Start, Day Care Licensing, Agency and/or WV Board of Education

Experience

• Minimum of six (6) months of closely related work experience preferred.

Computer Skills

• General familiarity with Microsoft Office and data entry programsOther Requirements
• A valid driver’s license and proof of liability insurance,
• Acceptable pre-employment criminal background check, protective service record check, substance abuse screening, driving record, and others
• Regular physical examinations documenting job fitness,
• Able to obtain and/or maintain other required licensing, as required. Examples include CPR and First Aid, S.T.A.R.S. certification, food handlers card, etc.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to sit on child-size chair and floor
• Must be able to tolerate loud/high pitched noises on a daily basis
• Must be able to climb steps and ramps up to 80 times throughout the workday
• Must be able to work inside/outside in cold/moderate/hot temperatures
• Must be able to maneuver easily within a 24-inch wide opening
• Must be able to lift/carry up to 15 pounds regularly and 50 lbs in an emergency
• Must be able to push/pull a minimum of 50 pounds
• Must be able to sit/stand for extended periods of time Chef, Head Start Program
• Must be able to walk on various surfaces a minimum of 5 miles throughout the workday, and up to 3 miles at one time (field trip)
• Must be physically and mentally capable
