Job Title: Maintenance Assistant
Department: Maintenance
Position Overview: The Maintenance Assistant will be responsible for performing general building and property maintenance and assisting staff in the Maintenance Department including Millwrights. The Maintenance Assistant shall also be responsible for keeping buildings in clean and orderly condition. Additional duties may include performing routine maintenance activities, and cleaning snow or debris from sidewalks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ensure that safety policies, housekeeping rules and guidelines, quality standards, and standard operating procedures are followed.
  • Perform general clean up the facility.
  • Ensure all fire extinguishers, detectors and eyewash stations are maintained and in working order.
  • Collect and dispose of all garbage and recyclables.
  • Clean light fixtures and change light bulbs/tubes.
  • Perform minor repairs on windows, doors, switches, desks, tables, plugs, appliances, sinks, toilets, blinds etc.
  • Responsible for clean-up and repair, within skill level.
  • Maintain working knowledge of environmental safeguards and alarm systems.
  • Maintain outside grounds (remove snow, ice, and debris).
  • Determine needed supplies and equipment.
  • Detect faulty operations, defective material and report those and any unusual situations to proper supervisor.
  • Prepare, paint interior and exterior surfaces, as required.
  • Drive vehicles, as required.
  • Work with and assist other staff members of the Maintenance Department.
  • Monitor and maintain various cleaning solutions and related equipment.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned or needed.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
  • Ability to lift up to 70 lbs. occasionally
  • Continuous standing
  • Use of hands and feet to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, controls, press buttons, levers and pedals
  • Bending, twisting and reaching
  • Repetitive and strenuous work.
  • Frequent walking
  • Wear personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, ear protection, safety shoes, gloves and any other protective equipment deemed necessary.
  • Work indoors in non-controlled environmental conditions
  • Exposure to sounds and noise levels that can be distracting or uncomfortable
  • Exposure to minor cuts or burns
  • Exposure to contaminants
  • Exposure to hazardous equipment
  • Work outdoors
  • Work with others in a group or team
  • Work in a dusty environment
  • Read SDS’s to familiarized with chemicals used
  • Work overtime as needed
Preferred qualifications:
  • Ability to perform small repairs (e.g. caulking, replacing washers, and replacing light fixtures).
  • Basic understanding of standard hand tools and power tools.
  • Basic computer skills for the purposes of data entry and logging of readings would be an asset.
  • Able to create alternative solutions to problems.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Skilled in using Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to communicate – verbal and written.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to perform basic math functions with accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Multi-Tasking skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics
  • Knowledge of electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • Bilingual in Spanish

Shift: 8-hour shift
Work Location: In person, Company does not provide relocation assistance.
